About Me

Ssmooth has been an underground favorite in his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona, since the early 1990’s when Dr. Dre and Snoop were at the beginning of their successful careers with Death Row Records. Ssmooth, growing up in one of the hot spots for crime in South Phoenix, deterred from the life of crime and was determined to be successful in life. He used poetry to express his feelings and later turned his poetic mind to music. Coming up with subject matter was not hard at all when you grow up in a neighborhood infested with poverty and crime. During his high school years, Ssmooth attended house parties and would freestyle on the microphone for entertainment. It wasn’t until many of the attendees began requesting more and more of Ssmooth on the microphone, did he decide that this was his calling. He would hang out with a group of close friends that he ended up naming the “Kuruption Party Krew”. Ssmooth later turned this party crew into his own independent record label “Kuruption Phoenix Krew Records” or what is known by the masses as "KPK Records".
Ssmooth joined friends, Ralu and Antz of Blow Up Productions to begin Ssmooth's first solo project, "Just A Taste". Once Ssmooth began his project, he ran into D.J. 2-Swift who had just begun his production studio. Swift ended up producing every track on Ssmooth's debut album. The album was released in 2002 under KPK Records and Blow Up Productions. The “Just A Taste” project gained international attention with sales that reached as far east as Japan. During the recording of this album, Ssmooth was attending college in an effort to complete a goal he set as a young child, to graduate with an undergraduate degree. With the success of his inaugural album, Ssmooth had a choice to make, either complete his life long goal for a higher education or continue in the rap game. He was confident that the music will always be in his heart and decided to take 2 years off and finish his undergraduate degree.
In 2004, Ssmooth graduated from college and was back in the studio. This time with a young protégé named “Fabulous One”. They formed a group called “F1S” and released their album in 2006 with the assistance of Ralu. This particular album opened many doors for the two rising stars. They toured the local circuit, networked, and formed a strong bond. This bond was to be tested when Ssmooth advised Fabulous One that he was going to start recording his second solo project. No animosity prevailed and Fabulous One went on to record his own album.
Ssmooth and long time friend Ralu began their sleepless night marathon of flying to California, Texas, and many smaller towns in Arizona to form connections with artists already in the mainstream. Ssmooth and Ralu met Zig Zag at a club and exchanged numbers. Ssmooth and Ziggy ended up recording “No More Waiting”, which inevitably became the title of Ssmooth’s latest release. Ziggy then introduced Ssmooth and Ralu to hip hop mogul from Texas, Big Gemini. An instant connection between the two rappers ensued and the recording of “Shake It” was completed with the strong production talent of Zig Zag. The success of Big Gemini and unique sound of Ssmooth with only one recording was not enough. The two ended up back in the studio and recording their second track, “The One For Me”, which Big Gemini added the vocal effect that gave it that extra spice they were looking for. At the end of the day, Ssmooth pieced together many tracks with many different successful and upcoming artists to form the album “No More Waiting”. The title represents the long struggle of making a statement in the game of rap and letting all know that Ssmooth is here, KPK is here, and this is just the beginning!
“Enjoy this masterpiece and know this is the beginning of better things to come!” – Ssmooth, KPK Records
