Silver City Records is an independent Hip-Hop/R&B Label created by Staxx in the summer of 2003, but didn't start being promoted until Nov. 2003. Staxx spent months studying the ins and outs of running an independent label because he wanted to inquire information on what they look for to figure out how to get signed to one. He figured to himself that since he learned so much about it in that period of time, that it would be best to just start his own. He spent the first few months recruiting a dedicated team of talented rappers and singers with the motive to build the most dominant independent label in New England. Then stretch talent further throughout the entire USA.
While Staxx was doing all of this, his long time friend Lingo, who had been producing for him since 2000, had similar ideas and his own team of talent called Shameless Self-Promotion which is also known as S.S.P. Staxx and Lingo met on numerous occasions to devise a strategy for success in music. The merger was complete in May 2004 and since then, nothing but great things have been happening.
The first release off Silver City Records was the Mass Transit Vol. 1 Mixtape. 500 copies were produced professionally and distributed no problem. That's when the buzz began. Within 2 months of the Mass Transit Volume 1 Mixtape release, Staxx had his single "Dream It" receiving major radio Airplay in a half dozen states down south through his promoter Darryl Wheeler from Come Clean Records, which is R&B superstar Usher's first label.
After that it was back to the mixtape circuit. In September 2004, Heights released his solo mixtape and established a strong local buzz for himself, pushing 500 copies out of the trunk of his whip. So within 4 months Silver City had 1,000 mixtapes on the street, but according to Staxx and Lingo, "That still isn't good enough." So they spent the next 2 months putting together the next collaborative mixtape for Silver City, Mass Transit Vol. 2, which featured 26 tracks, radio promotion on Providence's Number 1 radio station hot 106.3 and a mixtape release party hosted by Ecko Unlimited in their store in North Attleboro at the Emerald Square Mall on Nov. 20, 2004.
Just like the other mixtapes, they pushed 500 no problem, 80 at the mixtape release party alone. While this was all taking place, Staxx had been recording his first Solo Album on the side, and by early December 2004 it was ready for release. He pushed 300 copies in that last 3 weeks of December, and the final 200 were gone by the end of January 2005. So in the last 8 months of 2004, through 3 mixtapes and a solo album, Silver City Records/Shameless Self-Promotion dropped 2,000 Cd's to the masses. Sounds great for the first year in business right? But according to Staxx and Lingo, "That still isn't good enough."
2005 was determined to be the year of promotion by Silver City. In February 2005, Lingo devised a plan for Silver City to release a mixtape once a month from March until December and have everyone on Silver City feature on every mixtape. People were, and still are, skeptical about accomplishing this task and wonder if Silver City can pull it off. With a strong ambitious team of talent, nothing is impossible for Silver City. In March 2005 they released the "March Madness" Mixtape. Followed that up a month later with the "April Reign: Flood Warning" Mixtape, then went on to Release the "Hostile Takeover" Mixtape in May. Mass Transit Vol. 3 came in June, and will be followed by more releases monthly. Members of Silver City will also be releasing solo mixtapes and albums on the side.
