Sometimes accompanied by Ben Desrosier on lead guitar, Dom House on percussion. All songs written by Gary Fyles.
Influences: Okay here goes - I've put this off for a while...I collect and dj (occasionally) funk, soul, reggae and abstract vinyl and when I get the chance I usually just spin some recently purchased crackly 7" stormer! Some of my favourites at the moment are Billy Sugar's version of 'Super Duper Loving', 'Seashore' by the Surprise Sisters, Donnie Hathaway's 'Jealous Guy', 'Crawshay' Cymande, 'It's Only Money' by Argent, 'There's Only So Much Oil In The Ground' by Tower of Power 'Teardrops' by Womack and Womack is a blinder no matter how many times I hear it and 'Let's Straighten It Out' by Latimore. Some of those I'll always find myself coming back to... Lee Dorsey, Isley Brothers The Meters. Marlena Shaw, Nina Simone, of course the Godfather, Jimmy Castor, Al Green, The Fifth Dimension, Timmy Thomas, Willy Hutch, Sly Stone, Rare Earth, Ray Charles, Fatback Band, Otis Clay, virtually anything from Studio 1 and Trojan... I could go on... But I'm sure you're bored already!
When I can find the time for the turn tables I'll normally chill to some Mowax or Ninja Tune back catalogue classics mixed up with some UK Hip Hop. On the rare BIG night out it's gotta be old school D+B all the way!I suppose absolutely everything I see and do comes into what I write. All of the music that has passed through my ears from The Beatles to Dj Shadow - Nick Drake to The Cure - Steely Dan to The Chili Peppers - Colin Hay to Soul II Soul - it all must be in there somewhere. You might just not hear it.Unfortunately due to the parents poor influences Neil Diamond, Cliff Richard, UB40 and Alvin Stardust are no doubt in there somewhere too.
Sounds Like: Hopefully not much else... People say that it's difficult to akin my music to anything as each track is so different... Other than it's all acoustic guitar.
I generally listen to funk and soul, uk hiphop, chill out and electronica depending on my mood and the influences they have on writing songs on the guitar produce what I offer, I guess...
I've been flattered by being compared to Bill Withers... I wish I did! And cussed hard with comparisons to Coldplay and Jeremy Blunt... I don't listen to then so I should hope I don't!
Anyway...
See for yourself and let me know. Even if its a steaming pile to your ears. Constructive criticism taken well. Some of the recordings are rough in places but who gives a toss.
