Love and Other Natural Disasters

About Me

Welcome to LOH's myspace page! We're glad you stopped by. Left on Harvard, or the self-proclaimed "Godfathers of Smart-Pop," has been very busy lately. In February, LOH released their debut album, "Love and Other Natural Disasters," which catalogues the band's musical progress over the last 3 years. The album, filled mostly with frustrated love songs, demonstrates the melodrama of a typical, dysfunctional, "make-up, break-up" relationship. "Doing Just Fine," track 3 on the album, has been selected to appear on the "Oklahoma City Rockers for Life" compilation, sponsored by Illumina Records. LOH is planning to begin work on its sophomore album later this year. The band is primarily based in Tulsa, yet plays shows throughout Oklahoma. In case you missed it, Left on Harvard most recently performed an all-day show at Prior's 1st annual ROCKLAHOMA! For more details about the band, check out www.leftonharvard.com! We hope to see you at soon at one of our shows!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: leftonharvard.com
Band Members:
Jason Jones (guitar); Bryan Jones (bass); Tabor Smith (drums); Vic Poole (piano).
Influences: The Beatles, The Moody Blues, Counting Crows, The Eagles, Trey Anastasio, Dan Fogelberg, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Merchants of Venus, Sister Hazel, Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, AC/DC, The Police, Chicago, Collective Soul, The Guess Who, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Dire Straits, Joe Cocker, Huey Lewis, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, The Mamas and the Papas, Van Halen, Tom Petty, Goo Goo Dolls, Somewhere Out West.
Sounds Like: Overall melodic vocals, reminscent of The Beatles, combined with more contemporary rhythmic patterns similar to those presented by Counting Crows, John Mayer, Sister Hazel or Barenaked Ladies. Guitar solos are melodic and experimental, similar to the work of Mark Knopfler or David Immergluck. Guitar rhythms are bluesy with hints of jazz and funk perforating the music. Bass lines are punchy with a strong sense of movement, emulating 70s funk combined with retro-rock. The melodic keyboard sections range from delicate/decorative piano to 70s-style rock organ--similar to Donald Fagan's work with Steely Dan crossed with the loose style of Ben Folds. The percussion is a unique combination of rock drumming combined with fundaments from funk and blues playing.
