About Me

Check out our new band here:
The winter of 2003 was a pretty random year in the OC. Up to that point, the line up for (we are) Vipers was far from solid except for Evil D on guitar, Cobb on vocals, and Arturo on bass. Members came and went and holding onto a second guitar player had been a challenge but finding a suitable drummer had been an even harder task. After letting go of the original lead guitarist due to lack of motivation, Evil D recruited long time friend Chino who jumped at the opportunity to go from rock n roll journalist to playing in a band. At the time, percussion was loosely held in place by Frosty Shake, the son of a trucker who was still learning to play the drums. As time passed and new songs were written, (we are) Vipers set up their first show on February 19 at the Gypsy Lounge. As the days counted down, one thing remained certain, that Frosty might not be able to perform up to the rest of the bands expectations. Salvation came in the form of Keith Divel. His attention to detail and ability to learn quickly made for the ideal solution to not just complete the band, but also reunite five long time friends.
It would be comforting to say that the first show was an awe inspiring performance but truth be told, the band was somewhat stiff and a little uptight. Throughout the years, several shows passed and (we are) Vipers struggled with the same problems that many new bands encounter. A strong penchant for drinking brought some members down and balancing a solid live act remained to be a challenge. Inner turmoil and dissention amongst members led to several fights as egos tend to grow and patience wears thin. But as time passed, one thing remained constant, the songs got better and the shows drew in more people. Word of mouth tends to spread and (we are) Vipers began to gain reputation for putting on a high energy, power infused rock show. Yet as soon as things seemed to get better, fate tends to take a turn for the worse. (we are) Vipers were offered to be put out on a label in the UK and as soon as the delusions of grandeur arose, they were quickly put back on a shelf to die.
(we are) Vipers have been described as punk rock n roll backed by a feeding frenzy of heavily distorted guitars, supported by a solid rhythm section, and led by a soulful singer. To compare them to another band would be a waste of time. Unlike some bands, (we are) Vipers follow a strict plan for songwriting; they write songs that are exciting to play.
After over a year of being a solid unit, (we are) Vipers have experienced many highs and lows. They are a band that is constantly moving forward and are fueled by a love of music and drawn to entertain the masses. Like any band, their future is as unstable as a house of cards but as long as the fans continue to beg for more, (we are) Vipers will strive to push forward.
(we are) Loyal supporters of To Die For. Go buy their fresh gear.
