Hi, I'm Lauren and I'm crazy. (Strong start, right?) The other day my friend told me that I'm crazy. I thought it was because of the normal stuff - you know, the boss that seems to have come out of Office Space, the computer that only works every other day, etc. But no, my friend believes I'm crazy because I work full time and go to school. Oh yeah, and I'm studying construction. I've been doing this for about two years now and the biggest change I've noticed is that the level of cleanliness in my apartment has gone way down hill. Oh, that and I've been doing laundry at 2 a.m. I mean, aren't the wee hours of the morning when you're supposed to go and do your grocery shopping and laundry? Besides, you meet the most interesting people at Walmart in the morning...where else can you meet a transvestite stripper with an obsession for fried okra?
But I think it's worth it...or at least it will be eventually. Someday, I'll get my degree and be a hotshot estimator or project manager and get to yell at subcontractors and laborers. Or I'll just end up with something cool to hang up. Oh look, here's this $25,000 piece of paper to hang on my wall...
I'm not going to deny that I have my days where I wonder what the hell I'm doing. Especially when I get invited to parties because I'm the only one old enough to buy the beer. (No lie, that actually happened...) I have some really amazing people in my life that keep me centered. Or off center. Or right side up. I guess it just depends on what I need at that moment - all that matters is that they're there and they know where the good beer is.
I definitely took the road "less traveled" to get where I am today, but that's cool - I'm not sure I'd change a single thing. It's allowed me to become a totally different person and I've done a lot of things that some people never get the chance to - all right, get your mind out of the gutter, I'm talking about my work life and traveling.
But so far, it's been a fun ride. If only I could stop injuring myself in random accidents. But I can't wait to see what's coming up next...
