About Me

Sleepy Eyes of Death's debut LP 'Street Lights For a Ribcage' will officially street on July 17th. Recorded/mixed in Seattle at Chroma and Soundhouse, Street lights was produced by Sleepy Eyes and Zack Reinig (Black Heart Procession, Blonde Redhead).
Citing inspiration from My Bloody Valentine, Kraftwerk, and 80's soundtrack hero John Carpenter to Trans Am and M83, Sleepy Eyes of Death fill the gap between ambient shoegaze and dance-centric instrumental epics from the Dirty South. With intentions of creating a wall of analog induced sound thick enough to bury their listeners, Sleepy Eyes of Death employ an array of a half dozen different types of keyboards (often simultaneously) with that of heavily constructed doses of effected guitar. While often relying upon stark drum machine beats for pacing, live drums give way to flourishes of energy and mathematical fluidity throughout their sets. In addition to their music, Sleepy Eyes of Death are devoted to synchronized smoke, light, and cinematic accompaniment at all of their shows.

"Sleepy Eyes of Death employ an arsenal of antique machines and only the occasional acoustic instrument or human voice to achieve grand, cinematic results. ..a terrific debut score."
Eric Grandy :: The Stranger/thestranger.com
"While there's something lost in the translation from live to recording (you can't capture mood lighting and fog on a CD), this mostly instrumental collection captures the sheer grandiosity of the Sleepy Eyes of Death sound. This CD is going to turn a lot of heads and is a definite contender for one of the region's best albums of 2007."
Donte Parks :: seattlest.com
"This Seattle band follows up their promising debut EP with this excellent full-length of hypnotic space-rock. Sleepy Eyes of Death combine guitars and synthesizers for an epic, mostly instrumental electro-rock sound."
Don Yates :: KEXP 90.3FM/kexp.org
"The band uses a number of keyboards and periodic guitar effects to create a very large sound but never to the point of overwhelming where it seem like it may be reaching the point of overkill. No, these guys pretty much know what they are doing and have made good use of every instrument and effect that they employ. ..just genuinely inspired and moving music that I imagine shoegazers out there will enjoy heavily."
Jonathan Harnish :: BuiltOnAWeakSpot.com
"Seattle's wunderkinds of syntho-electric instrumental moodiness.."

“Besides having an AWESOME name, this band is a nice addition to the scene. Moody, emotional ep full of surprises. Hopefully a sign of things to come!”
John Richards :: KEXP 90.3FM/kexp.org
“Kraftwerk, and shoegazer all filtered intellectually into creating their own original sound. You can strongly recognize it's experimental sound, but the experimentalness never becomes introverted, remaining energetic and showing how seemingly excited these musicians are in creating music together.”
Hiroshi Ohira :: Cookie Scene vol.49 June/July 2006
