NOW RE-ISSUED ON STONE GUMBO RECORDS!! Click here to buy ATTUNED TO THE BLUES!!"Dr. Cookie" & "Louisiana Dan" Garner are veterans of the Blues
Festival circuit as well as the Shreveport music scene, having played
on practically every stage in the city, from clubs to casinos.
Dan was an apprentice for thirteen years to the late legendary
bluesman, JesseThomas,
recording and performing with him until Thomas' death in 1995.
Together Cookie and Dan played with Thomas in venues and festivals
across the country, including the New Orleans Jazz Festival and the
Long Beach Blues Festival.
Living Blues magazine referred to Garner's work on the release of
Thomas' "Lookin' For That Woman"
as "well attuned." That description inspired the title for the Blue
Goose Blues Records release of
Dr. Cookie & Louisiana Dan's "Attuned To The Blues".
Cookie and Dan traveled together as Dr. Cookie and Louisiana Dan throughout the
South, performing in Arkansas, Texas, Kentucky, Louisiana, California,
and Atlantic City,
NJ. They began their music career, together, in Artscool, an eclectic
group of artists whose
support performances included the likes of Terry Allen and Allen Ginsburg.
Through Blue Goose Blues Records, Dan and Cookie have produced seven
releases, which span
the genres of acoustic blues, rockabilly and gospel.
Dan and Cookie have co-written and recorded soundtracks for the Red
River Theatre and the
IMAX Dome Theatre at Sci-Port Discovery Center. Some of their songs have been
included in the film, "White Glove Treatment." In addition to
documenting some of
the vanishing music traditions of Northwest Louisiana, "Louisiana Dan"
Garner has also produced
music for commercials and jingles in the Americana tradition.
Currently Louisiana Dan works for The Tipitina's Foundation of New
Orleans and performs with Cookie & The Kingcakes as well as a solo
singer/songwriter with a mission to keep the music traditions of
Louisiana alive and well.Other featured musicians in Cookie and the Kingcakes include Berkely
School of Music alumni Mark Griffith (who has performed with famed
producer, drummer and performer, Brian Blade,) on lead guitar and Jim
O'Brien on drums. Rick Willis performs on bass.
