About Me

EL PROCESO AUGUST 8th PRE-ORDER
..The 21st of September 1987 Mateo Fabian Borja was born in Gualaceo, Ecuador. Until the age of five years old Mateo was raised by his grandmother in Ecuador. Soon after he was reunited with his family in Long Island, New York. During that time he was gradually introduced into the world of music. As Mateo grew older his love for music would be discovered through the help of his father Angel A. Borja. His father decided to present Mateo, his sister Patricia and his younger brother Angel to the music of Julio Jaramillo and other traditional Ecuadorian music, and as a family they began to perform at competitions. For almost two years straight the Borja family would win first place and even landed their picture in the town newspaper. After two years of competing Mateo and his family took a break from music and no longer competed. This break destined Mateo into seeking for another way to express his musical talent. At the age of twelve years old he would find the very thing that would fulfill his passion for music. As any young teenager at that age hip- hop became an influence in his future endeavors. Some of the artists that pushed his ideas into motion were Vico-c, Big Boy, Tupac, Nas, Cuban Link, Big Pun, music of Los Panchos .Julio Jaramillo and El Puma. The following year he began writing his own lyrics, first in Spanish and then began writing in English. Since he didn’t have the equipment he would record his songs with the computer microphone and a boom box playing the beat. Every chance he had he would write songs to instrumentals, making his own version of “I need a girl”, and then he would start finding beats of his own to create his music. His first professional recording was at the age of 16 a song called "Loyalty" produced by Sequel and Charles Victor. From the age of fifteen to seventeen Mateo’s father would help him find small performances at family parties or even being the main entertainment at local shows in Long Island. But at this age music was just a hobby that helped him think, relax and express his ideas. It wasn’t until the age of seventeen that he would become serious about music. That same year he went to Washington D.C. for a talent competition. The judges gave him first place for the lyrical content of his song called "Maltrato". From that point forward Mateo was seeking performances all over. He would be the first rapper to perform for the President of Ecuador in 2007 with the song he wrote called “Ecuatoriano Soy.” This song would also be used for the political campaign Alianza 35. Mateo opened up for Grupo Xtreme, Oro Solido and also participated in 2006 – 2007 Red bull Batalla de Los Gallos. What pushed him even further was the support of his audiences. When his audiences began to listen to the lyrics of his music and show enthusiasm for the way he performed, it was then he realized the intensity and love that he had for his music. Mateo has pushed the envelope so to speak and has created a milestone for himself. He is the first Ecuadorian rapper to perform in Queens, Manhattan and New Jersey Ecuadorian Day Parades. And he is also the first rapper from his hometown Gualaceo, Ecuador to write his own music in English and in Spanish. Mateo wanted to give his audience something unique and he wanted a chance to diversify the hip hop and reggaeton industry. He believes that the music industry focuses on a certain look and sound, but his goal is to prove that he is not a gimmick and neither does he want to portray that certain image. Mateo is working towards opening the doors for other talents from different backgrounds and ethnicities. He has created his own label called “Emperio Records” along with the help of his younger brother Angel E. Borja where he has worked with other young artists, and formed a group called 3 Flow Letal with upcoming Rappers Colombia and J. Sosa. He is also completing his first independent album called “El Proceso” produced by Charles Victor and beats produced by Tommy Guns, Mafia Fina Productions, DJ Eddie, Fernando Orquera, X Cuts Productions and DJ Host. Even though Mateo has accomplished so much his dream is to one day have the world support his movement and litsen to his music.SELVA DE CEMENTO FREESTYLE
