See more from X2CMeet X2C: a young poet, philosopher, creator and manipulator of words and enticer of hearts, a shining artist whose determination and destiny are masterfully chronicled in a litany of words and a heartbeat of emotions.Based on visuals alone, it would be easy to envision X2C in the role of a classic R&B singer. But looks are deceiving; he combines melodic elements, urban edge and pure soul into a style he describes as R&R: “Rhythm and Rap.†And with his magazine-ready style, there’s no mistaking who his audience is. “Guys will love it too, but it’s for the women,†he laughs. “At this point in my life I’m 22 -- everything I think about is women!â€Growing up as Tailahr Katz in a single parent home in South Los Angeles, X2C learned the rules of survival early on. “I’ve seen shootings, people going to jail, but it wasn’t for me,†he confirms. In school, he learned how to unlock his emotions to create poetry and eventually completed studies through a home schooling program so he could concentrate on his budding career in music. Influenced by the icons of West Coast rap, classic R&B that he heard in the house also figured into the mix. “My music is kind of pop,†informs X2C. “I grew up listening to old school R&B. I want to bring that type of vibe to rap to create New West Coast Music.â€
At the center of his own creative scene, X2C works with a tight community of collaborators and producers, and a dedicated, full time manager with a long-range vision. “Every situation I’m in, I’m trying to learn from it,†he affirms. Despite his young age, he’s music biz savvy, a veteran of the deal-making machine. He recalls one fateful meeting. “The Vice President of A&R for a major label told me, ‘You’re on fire, but you’re not gang banging, so I’m not going to sign you. Go outside, put on a red khaki suit, come back, and I’ll sign you.’ He lives in Encino and I live in L.A. If put on the red suit I get shot. A lot of west coast artists promote violence, gangbanging, degrading women and dealing dope – I want to bring the positive thing – feel good music.â€The musical flow of his raps and the melodic elements of the tracks create a vivid frame for the music. Utilizing his instinctive A&R skills, X2C chooses beats based on physical and emotional immediacy. “I always get the right one,†he clarifies, “and then the beat will tell me what to write.â€The truth is in his tracks and the wisdom is in his words: X2C is an artist intent on bringing the rhythms of romance into the hip-hop mainstream. But for the thoughtful young man who grew up in the church, there is a deeper purpose. “I realize the music I do is going to reach out and touch somebody. I do music for the love of music. I have to have faith and follow the path.â€
