DJ MENTAT, ROOTS MANUVA, SKINNYMAN, JOE BUHDHA and MYSTRO
Beat Asylum Recordings burst on to the scene back in late 2004 with their stunning debut 12" release, "RUGGED WID'IT". This featured the undiscovered talent, DJ MENTAT (Beat Asylum's first signing), and award winning ROOTS MANUVA and SEANIE T. This in turn, became one of the fastest selling debuts in the history of UK hip-hop.
With the likes of JAZZY JEFF noticing MENTAT's production skills, the following release was always going to be big, especially when you feature UK rap legend SKINNYMAN! The track titled "WHEN I GIVE MY HEART TO YOU" was an instant classic, reaching No.2 in the Hip-hop sales charts, even out selling the likes of LUDACRIS and NAS, also being spun by some of the most prolific DJ's in the world including, Tim Westwood (Radio 1), Zane Lowe (Radio 1), and Gilles Peterson (Radio 1) and being 'A' listed on Radio 1xtra.
Many consider "WHEN I GIVE MY HEART TO YOU" a UK anthem, due to
high demand the track was later re-released with remixes from other hot UK producers Joe Buhdha (Klasnekoff) and Dag Nabbit (Foreign Beggars) with the "1xtra single of the month" b side smash "Waiting" featuring MYSTRO, also included.
With DJ MENTAT now working with many of the UK's biggest artists, and gaining more and more support from national radio, magazines and press, Mentat has become very much in demand.
The next release to come from DJ MENTAT is "WHATS HAPPENIN" featuring the future star, DUURTY GOODZ. Although still not released it has seen the likes of Radio 1 DJ's, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Gilles Peterson, and Ras Kwame giving huge early support, which has set up "WHATS HAPPENIN" to become an urban classic.
To follow on from the huge succes of Beat Asylum's first signing, DJ MENTAT, the label is very proud to present SYAMAN and KEYZ (A-starz), two new incredable rappers that also produce, and are set to take the UK by storm in 2006!
