Katie has just been awarded the JOURNAL CULTURE AWARD FOR NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR in the ceremony which took place at the lovely Northern Stage Theatre in Newcastle on Monday 31st March. She is looking for the ideal spot to display her beautifully designed award in her cosy new flat!******************************************************* ************************************************************ ************************************************************ *****************Debut album Bridges will be on national release on the 29th of Oct 2007, on Park records. featuring some of my favourite musicians;Ian Stephenson, double bass and guitar Olivia Ross, Fiddle and viola Shona Mooney, fiddle (Scottish Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2006) Calum Stewart, Wooden Flute, Whistles, Uilleann Pipes Julien Batten, Piano Accordian Martin Douglas, Drums and Percussion ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ************WINNER OF THE 2004 MUSICIANS BENEVOLENT FUND AWARD FOR SONG CREATION!unanimous choice of judges; Guy Chambers (who has written and produced with Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Texas, Beverley Knight, Jamie Cullum etc), Andy McCluskey ( formed Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and created Atomic Kitten), David Stark (Editor/Publisher of SongLink International magazine), Ian Smith (MBF Trustee and MU representative for Scotland and Northern Ireland) and Gill Mills (TV broadcaster, journalist, DJ and film promoter). ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ***********I have had the absolute pleasure of working with the amazing musician/composer/producer/DJ Nitin Sawhney so far, one of the musical highlights of my life!!!!! Fine is an example of the kind of work we did with Nitin during the Aftershock project in 2005. ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ************In 2004 I did a tour with Kathryn Tickell as part of the Nu Routes initiative to showcase new talent, me, Olivia Ross, Julien Batten and Ian stephenson had great tunes, songs and laughs around england for a week. The fruits of the Nu Routes collaboration can be found on Kathryn’s album Strange but True on Park Records and also on my new album Bridges.**************************************************** ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ******************** At the Sage Gateshead I have had the pleasure of supporting one of my inspirations Karine Polwart and also folk superstars Kate and Anna McGarrigle and more recently and randomly Ray Davies. ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ************ I also do guest vocals with folk/funk band the Braykes (I think thats how they’re spelling it these days) you can find their funky grooves on Ian stephensons Myspace page.
