Well, I am 32 years old, born in Walla Walla, WA, and currently live in Pasco, WA.
I married my lovely wife, Melissa, in May 2002 whom I met at Washington State University in 1997. Marriage is the friendship that I always thought it would be, with all of the fun and the hard times rolled up into one big ball that we all sometimes call a relationship. Other than God, she is my one true best friend in life who knows me the best.
The biggest joy in my life came to us on August 9, 2005. Little Sarah Catherine was born that day at 7lbs. 8 oz. She is the absolute joy in my life. Joy #2 came on March 10, 2008. Ethan was born at 8 pounds. We are truely blessed with these little gifts from God. Spitting image of his dad - poor kid!
I have been working as a R.N in a local hospital in the O.R. Department. Yes, the pay is good. Yes, the staff is wonderful. Yes, it is a high energy & high adrenaline rush at times.
The problem is, with all this, I'm still not happy. I hate having to get up at 5am, drive to work, finally wake up around 7am. Plus, our daily schedule is dictated by surgeons. If they want to work late, we work late. We get NO choice in the matter. And when I work late, that means I don't get to see my family whom I love dearly. On top of that, I have to take emergency surgery call. Getting called to surgery from the dead of sleep at 2am in my own bed is not my cup of tea.
I know my life is supposed to be better than this!
I don't have the same thinking as my peers — I didn't want a better job to remedy the problem. I want to be my own boss. I want to work from home!
More School??
Go to school, get a job, and you're set. Set for what? Have you really looked? Get up, shower, eat, commute, work, break, work more, lunch, work some more, break again, work (maybe), go home, eat dinner, go to sleep. They went to school. 4 plus years of it! And they're only making 30-45k a year. They have 9-5 jobs!
This is becoming way to common in our society. Kids and parents are spending way too much on an education that is supposed to get them a job that will supposedly pay them what they are worth. But in reality it's never comparable to what our real value is. Sound familiar?
Don't get me wrong. I value education. I have 2 degrees. How much faith does that show that I had in the education system? But what did it get me? A tired mind, body, soul and a chance to make ends meet.
A friend pointed out to me that we are all raised with something he calls "the middle class mindset." "Go to school and get a job, and your set." Set for what? Have you really looked? "If something sounds too good to be true it probably is." Says who? Your broke friend? "Without an education, you can't succeed." Well you can't teach heart, desire, passion, and work ethic.
I Know It's Within Each And Everyone One Of You…
The question is…what are you going to do about it? Do you continue on living life even if you're not satisfied with how you're living?
Or do like I did and step entirely out of your comfort zone, believe in yourself at all costs, focus on your goals and dreams, and turn those dreams into reality?
Only YOU can answer that question. Ultimately what you really want, and how bad you want it, will dictate which path you take.
