Michael Scallan, aka Mike Brandt, has been in the Louisiana music scene for just a short while now. He started by teaching himself how to play the drums and eventually joining a band called Farewell 2 Arms in 2006. He taught himself how to play the guitar, and he began to write his own songs. Mike's cousin Andrew is responsible for the discovery of Mike's unique voice. This led to the creation of Mike Brandt in 2007. He was very "shy" until his first show. Since, he has played at The Caterie, Hooters, Buffalo Wild Wings, The Darkroom, Shady's, Dreaux's Grill, and Bourbon Street Bar and Grill. He has received recognition from Clay Achee (associated with Meriwether), Benjy Davis Project and many other talented groups.
Music has been in Mike's family for years. From his great-grandfather and grandpa playing in big jazz bands to his dad and uncle being in rock bands, he wants to keep it going. With his love and dedication, he will help carry on this family tradition. "I want nothing more than for people to enjoy my songs and sing along with them; that makes me feel awesome!" says Mike.
He loves music with a passion and wants to put out something different that will express whom he is. He takes after hid father: wanting to be a rock star and dedicating his life to music. "I just play music that I like and hopefully the people will like it as well," says Mike. His poetic writing and vocals give character to his music. His main goal is to show others that it is possible. People that meet him and hear his story say that he is very dedicated, and if he wants something bad enough, he will work hard to get it. And, that is what he is doing.
Mike is releasing a full length album in the summer of 2008. The album contains some of his early originals, "Break You Down" and "CJ", along with some brand new songs that have a upgraded sound. The album was recorded by a great team of guys over at Building Studios. The exact date for the release will be posted soon.
