AJ Darby uses his custom-built computers and software controllers to create a modern "Industrial-Rock" sound. His aggressive in-your-face sound is inspired by his youth spent as a homeless "white kid" on the predominantly Native American streets of Rapid City, SD. Other influences include his Computer Science/Engineering background, his advocacy of the legalization of recreational drug use, and his extreme paranoia and distrust of the "New World Order. Darby formulates anthems for the poor, the tired, and the huddled masses who find themselves legally and economically pinned under the copper foot of "Lady Liberty." Try as they might, his political opponents have as yet failed to silence the audio outrage that pulses behind AJ Darby's music.
This is the Official Music Video for "Phantoms." The animation was donated by Cyriak, an animator from the UK who donated some of his demo work for the video. With a totally brutal song, a few photos of me, a bit of Cyriak's volunteered handywork, and some direction from myself, we we're able to assemble something worth experiencing without a big budget. I hope you enjoy!
This is a video I made for my song "Bitch, I'm the President." I made the song in January 2009 with quotes from then President-Elect Barack Obama. I did a little cutting, stretching, rearranging, and pitch-correcting to some of the clips. Most of the quotes come from the audiobooks "Dreams From My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope." Other sources include interviews, debates, and radio addresses. Lyrics are available in my MySpace blog.
This is a video I shot in my dorm room over X-Mas break 2007. The drum beat is a pre-arranged recording playing through my computer speakers. It's really just me showing off some two hand guitar style. The only camera I had handy was a 1.3Mp cell phone camera. Sorry about the shitty quality. The guitar is a Fernandez Vertigo X. The effects used are a DigiTech RP6 digital pedal system.
