About Me
Lacquer Channel Mastering is Canada's Premiere Dedicated Mastering Facility, located in Toronto, Ontario.
We recently renovated our facility in Toronto with two new prestigious mastering rooms. The studios are equipped with the finest in vintage analog technology and state of the art digital processing gear. This unique amalgamation of the best of old and new technologies provides the engineers with the tools needed to make subjective decisions objectively.
For many years, Lacquer Channel Mastering was one of the only studios in Canada that cut vinyl records. The name Lacquer Channel refers to the disc recorder, or lathe which is used to produce lacquer masters and dub plates.
Chief Mastering Engineer George Graves (affectionately nicknamed 'Canada's Golden Ears') is at the heart of the Lacquer Channel Mastering facility. George began his career as mastering engineer in 1963, cutting vinyl records at the Century Records pressing plant. He went on to work at the Mastering Lab, one of the first independent mastering facilities in the world. In 1974, George Graves was brought to Canada by the legendary producer Jack Richardson. George has mastered thousands of albums, by artists such as Rush, U2, Alice Cooper, Peter Gabriel, The Tragically Hip, The Guess Who, Kayne West and Sloan.
Lacquer Channel Mastering is respected for their attention to sonic detail, and a willingness to push the boundaries of music by exploring new techniques and technologies. Senior Engineers Phil Demetro and Noah Mintz represent the new breed of mastering engineers who are fiercely devoted to the art and science of their craft. In the past ten years, these two mastering engineers have gained their reputation by dedicating themselves to mastering each recording expertly and creatively. It is their collective goal that each recording they master reach its full potential as a manifestation of the artists vision. Recent clients include the Junior Boys, Broken Social Scene, Canadian Idol, Sloan, Our Lady Peace, K-OS, Stars, Saukrates, and Misstress Barbara.
