Jeffrey James and the Haul are easy, and they know it. Their songs are straight forward, catchy and stay with you. The band puts things together in a unique way combining horns, raucous guitar solos and an earnest Memphis charm. Their songs start with a beat and end with a bang. The Haul is inventive without reinventing the wheel.Jeffrey James & the Haul is a motley crew of friends with different musical tastes and tendencies – but that’s what makes it work. The band consists of Jeff Hulett on acoustic guitar and vocals, Luke White on electric guitar and vocals, Nahshon Benford on horns, keys, percussion and back-up vocals, Dave Schulter on bass, Daniel Farris on drums and Aaron Rehling, who recently moved, but will always remain a part of the Haul. The Haul was born in the hot, hot summer of 05’- Hulett was working in a kitchen with Schulter and off-handedly said, “Hey, I’ve got some songs. Do you want to get some beer and play some music after work?†Dave agreed, and it was on. Rounding out the band was easy enough, as Hulett tapped fellow Snowglobe members Benford and White. Before they knew it they were playing around town and recording their first record.Hulett, Benford and White have done their share of touring in Snowglobe as the band toured in support of the albums Our Land Brains and Doing the Distance, which both did well regionally and nationally. Snowglobe has a new album in the works and is featured in director Craig Brewer’s latest project, $5 Cover, which will air on MTV.com this spring. Hulett occasionally writes songs for Snowglobe, but the Haul is his main creative outlet.According to Mule Magazine editor Liz Tapp, “Jeffrey James and the Haul are for days when you need reassurance to turn onto a back road. Or just know that someone sees it the way you do.â€The Haul already has one record out on Makeshift Music, Win the National Championship. And the band’s follow-up, Ride the Wind Carnival, is due out on Makeshift Music this spring.
