Danse of the Dead

About Me

“A definite unique sound with fast flowing lyrics. Theatrical, wild and methodical, a band with a plan, and an image that could take them far.” – blackpoolbands.co.uk
“Enchanting. It makes me think of “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” – where all the demons mob up and attack Aslan for some reason.” - Blackpool Rox 9
“Highly unusual and yet most excellent Celtic Goth.” – Taliesin Meets The Vampires
“An unusual hybrid of Gothic Folk and Gypsy Punk” – The Midweek Herald
Danse of the Dead were formed by Mr Wyrd and Benjamin Wolfe on Halloween of 2004 and spent much of the next two years writing and recording their debut album, R.I.P. Good Times. Their music evolved into what would come to be known as “Gothic Folk” and, more recently cited to include elements of “Gypsy Punk” owing to the ferocious energy of their live performance.
In February 2007 they completed the album and, to promote its release, Mr Wyrd and Benjamin Wolfe planned a tour of the UK. Unperturbed by lack of money or transport, the two set off on a 50 year old motorcycle, braving crashes, foul weather and broken bones, and travelled from John O’ Groats to Lands End, playing acoustically in a different town each night for a month.
Their Gothic Folk Gypsy Punk was celebrated in over thirty towns, resulting in airplay for Danse of the Dead on BBC Lancashire and BBC Hereford and Worcester as well as various newspaper interviews. They successfully arrived at Land’s End to play at The First and Last Inn in England on the 31st of May where the antique engine of the bike finally gave in and (somewhat ceremoniously) exploded.
The following month R.I.P. Good Times was released at a sold out album launch gig at the West Coast Rock Café, a day before they travelled to Donnington to play with Hawkwind at Hawkfest, where they headlined the Strangeness stage on the Saturday night and have been asked to return for the 2008 festival.
DotD have also been featured on Diversity FM, The 1978 Alternative Radio Show and Sean McGinty’s BRYAN show. They are currently one of the featured bands on the Phoenixx Rising online Jukebox.
They will be touring the UK as a full band this summer as well as appearing at Mis-Fest in Blackpool in June.
