About Me

I am a 'shadow' for a special needs kid. I was a Jewish studies teacher before a minor little windstorm called Katrina destroyed my former life.
I was born in England and grew up in Switzerland. I went to the International school of Geneva. I tutor French on the side (-:
I think I may become an American citizen one of these days, when I get around to it. My dream is to become a citizen on July Fourth in a big stadium with 100 other people with the Star Spangled Banner playing and fireworks going off. Guess I'd better study for the test?
I have a very international family. My brother lives in Switzerland, My sister in Australia, my parents in England, me in the US, my BIL is from Israel, my FIL came here from Germany. My parents lived in France for a while. We have big phone bills.
I lived in North Carolina and 16 years in New Orleans. I KNOW what it means to miss New Orleans. It was the place I lived the longest and I am still in mourning for my city.
Oh yeah, I am mom to five (yeah, yeah FIVE) kids- three girls. and two boys. Married to Frank since I am 20 and he is 31. I met him when I was 18 and he was 29. Which is freaking scary now that I have a 16-year-old daughter. If she brings home a guy that is 29 when she is 18, I'll LOCK HER IN HER ROOM (are your eading this, Tovah?) True story: When I used to visit my future in-laws, they would sit me at the KIDS' TABLE!!! Now we are both somewhat older. He is 50 and you can figure out my age yourself. He works for FEd-Ex- the greatest company ever. They are so cool to work for and we get 75% off our shipping. Nice when your family is scattered.
One of my kids had a very serious illness called infantile spasms and we thought she would never walk or talk. You think a hurricane is bad? It's NOTHING compared to watching your child suffer. I was all of 25 at the time. She is doing GREAT today. I learned of a treatment called the ketogenic diet and she recovered completely. I spend a lot of time helping other parents who receive this awful diagnosis. I run a list on Yahoo groups with well-over 1,000 members. I was also trying to start an IS foundation, but Katrina put my plans on hold. I wrote Eliana's story on WebMD... Eliana's Story on WebMd
I seriously wanted to be a singer when I was a teenager;. Forget the fact that I absolutely hate performing. That was a little minus. I wanted to join the D'Oyly Carte opera company and they said they'd give me an audition when I was 16. By the time I was old enough, they had run out of money and disbanded. So now I just sing in the shower or with Shoshana, who also likes to sing.
I am an Orthodox Jew which means my kids have never, ever eaten at McDonalds. I have no idea what that signifies. It also means I do weird things like cover my hair and elbows even when it is 95 degrees. And both my boys did not have a hircut until they were three. then we had a HUGE hair-cutting party. We Jews are always cutting things!!!
So now we're in Memphis and happy and we OWN OUR FIRST HOUSE!!!
My best news since forever.. my sister Emma is having a BOY
