About Me

NEW! - TRROCKMORTON DRUMS MYSPACE!
Here is some press about us.........
The Spiders Glitzkrieg (Acetate): With fast songs about faster women and slow death: Glitzkreig is a kamikaze-glitter romp that sounds like it was written and cut in L.A. in 1973 by a band of recovering libertines, then stuffed into a closet full of broken mirror balls and ruined, stacked-heel boots for thirty years. The Spiders, in fact, are modern, heavy-glam lads from Austin, Texas, who rock with the crunchy attention to detail of period scholars. The riffs and wrecking-ball power chords combine the punch and sizzle of early Cheap Trick and Killer-era Alice Cooper, while singer-guitarist Christopher Benedict has a bit of elfin Devo running through his yelp: Mark Mothersbaugh channeling Marc Bolan. Rolling Stone - Ten CD's From Under The Radar - David Fricke
Village Voice (New York City, NY) - Glam is the New Metal - Frank Kogan
"The Spiders: San Marcos, Texas produced this quartet, whose name evokes Bowie for good reason; the band blends glammy swagger with hard-rock riffs, a la Stooges, plus Sabbath, plus extra glitter." East Bay Express (San Francisco, CA)
"This unjustly ignored Austin foursome mix mid-70's hard rock (Alice, Aerosmith, Mott, Pistols) with mid-70's art-rock (Zappa, Sparks, Queen, Roxy) as seamlessly as anyone since the glory days of the Tubes and Hounds. Hooks come as much from odd angular junctures as from extremely heavy riffs; Christopher Benedict's falsetto vibrates toward Lux Interior and Axl Rose, and his words discuss cigarettes, school nights, and Hollywood Hills whores." Village Voice (New York City, NY) - Chuck Eddy
"THE SPIDERS: The Lord said, 'Let there be rock!' And it was good. He said, 'Let there be a band from San Marcos, who shall be called the Spiders, and let them bring down the very heavens themselves in the name of rock!' And it was very good. If, as per the wall-crawlers' debut, Sex Is Thicker Than Blood, fine uncut rock of this caliber is thicker than both." Austin Chronicle (Austin, TX) - Christopher Gray
"A quick search reveals that this is the third band to use the moniker "the Spiders"-- it's just too good a name to resist. The first Spiders was a New Orleans R&B party band in the 50's, the second a Japanese British Invasion band (no kidding) and the third--this group--a rawk and squawk group from the Austin, Texas, area. Driven by guitarist Eric Shaw's percussive part-punk-part-metal guitar lines and singer Chris Benedict's Marc Bolan-meets-Lux-Interior croon, the Spiders' music gives glam polish to tense, driven noise. These Spiders simply rock, a strategy all too few bands seem willing to try (or able to execute) these days. Pitch Weekly (Kansas City, MO) - Mike Warren
The Skinny- Formed in San Marcos, Texas, in 2000, the Spiders have established themselves as a hot draw in nearby Austin, a city known for its discerning live music fans. Guitarist Eric Shaw, bassist Karl Toft (both formerly of the Kevorkians), drummer Gary First and flamboyant frontman Christopher Benedict combine arena rock bombast, punk aggression and alternative rock melody into a distinctive sound. Provocative lyrics and hard rock riffs abound on the group's debut "Sex is Thicker than Blood." The combo's enthusiastic cross-pollination of rock styles has allowed them to appear on bills with a range of bands, from Southern rock heavies Honky to modern rock standard bearer Soak. Hard at work on a new record for L.A. indie Acetate, the Spiders carry the torch for rock and roll swagger. The Crowd- Fans of the Hellacopters and the Supersuckers will like these Spiders' bites. SXSW 2002 Top 10 Picks - Citysearch.com - Michael Toland
Sex is Thicker Than Blood review: www.austinchronicle.com"THE SPIDERS: Out of San Marcos, the Spiders purvey balls-out punk metal licks and glam attitude like it never went out of style. The quartet once covered side one of Motley Crue's Too Fast for Love in its entirety, which should give you a good idea of their intent. The Spiders are currently working on the follow-up to their hard-hitting 2000 debut, Sex Is Thicker Than Blood (Unscene) for Acetate Records." Austin Chronicle (Austin, TX) - Greg Beets
