I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Preparing for San Antonio this July. Addicted to my iPod reading the New York Times. Addicted downloading NPR's "The American Life." Independent, but working on my ability to share. Sarcastic, but always sincere. Wordy, but always telling my students to be more direct & concise. Competitive, but I can handle losing. Prone to embellishment, but I don't like it when people bullshit me. I like to think that I am good at everything. I like board games, shopping, and flip flops. In the car, I prefer to be the passenger. I wear my watch on my right hand. In the morning, I hit sleep too many times on the alarm clock, usually four times too many. I love it when boys wear striped Oxford shirts. The two finest compliments I've ever recieved: I was once called a "force for good." Someone also, favorably, compared to a fast-talking and self-assured 1930s movie heroine, the likes of Rosalind Russell or Jean Arthur.

My Interests

Movies, Art (with a capital A), preparing & enjoying a fine meal, schmoozing, board games, microbrews, flip flops, farmer's marketing, TiVo, reality TV, decorating my new home, going for "double features" at the local multiplex, getting mani/pedi, reading the New York Times on a Saturday with a strong cuppa Joe.

I'd like to meet:

In general, I am not looking to settle or settle down - just looking for people who are worth my time & effort. I would like to meet someone who wants to put me on a healthy salary for doing what I do best. New friends and dinner party-chums in the San Antonio area.

Music:

The Walkmen, Stars, Interpol, Josh Ritter, The Smiths, INXS, The Postal Service, The Decemberists, She Wants Revenge, Feist, Nouvelle Vague, Joy Division, The French Kicks, Nina Simone, The Strokes, David Bowie, New Order, Sarah Harmer, Wilco, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Jackson Browne, and Van Morrison.

Movies:

Annie Hall, Manhattan, Shanghai Blues, Sherman's March, Yi Yi, The Apartment, The Royal Tennebaums, What Time is it There?, High and Low, Late Spring, Showgirls, Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage, and 8 1/2.

Inevitably, every time this year Patrick and I break out the boxes, tape guns, and bad network tv talent shows to start the annual ritual of moving all of our stuff and the rest of our lives to a new ...

the incredible.

I had a rough morning.  I am not adapting well to the time change.  I was running late so I literally ran out of the door (wearing wide leg pants and heels).  Anyway, my heel caught on ...

Season's Greetings

I am in the process of sending out my holiday cards, but it looks like I bought a box fewer than I actually need and I am missing loads of addresses.  For those who won't make the cut this year (...

New Job! New "Crappy" Apartment!

The eagle has landed... Moving is a bitch. In the meantime, we've actually become quite addicted to America's Got Talent - finding that the white trash clog dancers with bad N-sync-esque highlight jo...

My Teenage Kerouac Fantasies... LIVED!

Teaching college is very different from teaching K-12 - subject matter & maturity aside - because of the relatively limited amount of time you see your students. In K-12, it's more of a full-time, da...

hipster ecards & resumes??

It's my friend's birthday -- he's not really the kind of guy who would get mushy over a Hallmark ecard. Anyway, I searched Google for "Hipster ecards" and low and behold, there is such a site as www....

It's a good thing when it comes to an end.

After ten days of feeling like real life again, Patrick left this morning -- early, early morning, when it was freezing rain, before the April snow came. My favorite show - I mean, which one - Roller...

N-less.

More grading, blah. I won't finish in time for class. Meanwhile, the "N" paint wore off my N-key. Now I just need to go on intiution, no one else will know how to type N on my laptop.

gradathon

I hate grading papers. At least Sarah Harmer and Sam Cooke are making it a little easier. Sheesh. It never ends.
