City Wide Walkie Talkie are a three-piece ensemble consisting of Brian Longhurst on drums, Daryl Askey on keyboards, and Jamie Tait on bass guitar. Their influences range from obscure soul-funk to space rock to dub, and many sub-genres in between. Taste and atmosphere have always won out over musical proficiency, and that has kept them keeping on.
It all began in 1999 as a recording project where keyboard, guitar, bass and percussion improvisations would be laid down over drum machine and groove box sequences. The self-produced City Wide Walkie Talkie EP and Keep The Killing Up album resulted from this process.
The group followed up with sound track material for a short film, Headshot, in 2003, and a second unique album, Planet of the Superspeakers, in 2005. Meanwhile, as Brian re-discovered his teenage love of drumming, CWWT headed off to rehearsals to evolve into a viable live unit.
After playing an initial series of shows around Vancouver, City Wide is now in the process of creating new beats for a new recording project. Stay tuned. Click here to book City Wide Walkie Talkie for your art opening, party, festival or other event.
