Hey there. This is just a page about me! Playing bass is about me! I've played in a zillion bands over the years. Everything from country to rock to jazz to showtunes to metal. Music is a wonderful thing. You can see into one's soul thru the music and the way they play it. Best thing I ever did was learn music. (and the pushing of my Mom) Bass is my instrument now. Guitar was my first. A Harmony with F holes! Found it a couple of years ago. A relative had it! I thought it was gone for sure. Still have the 3/4 size Gibson eletric that my Dad bought me! Tobacco Sunburst, sweet little guitar. Hands are too big now for it. Tenor Sax in school was my instrument. They wouldn't let guitar be in the school band! When I got to high school it was Baritone Sax. Liked that low end shit. Smallest guy in the band with the biggest freakin instrument. Even tried Baritone for a while. In a concert band, that was a trip.
All the bands in the early years I was a guitar player. Until one day a guy (who was a great guitarist) says he needs a bass player. And I'm saying that I don't know bass. He shows me some stuff and the next thing I know I've got a '63 Fender Jazz (which I still have) and I'm playing progressive rock in an all original band. Kind of Curved Air, Wolff, Genesis stuff. Good band. So I moved up to an Alembic! The best bass in the world. Had a graphite neck thru the body, long scale. Just a beauty. Had to sell it a few years ago to make rent money. That sucked. Started playing 5 string in a blues band I had going and since then have had several. Play a Music Man Stringray 5 now. Have a Yamaha 5 for a backup. The MusicMan has as great curly maple neck, I think, on it. Just plays like a dream. Have a good tech that sets all the basses up that is a wizard as well. Played in a jazz trio for a while and thought I would use a Double Bass every once in a while. Have a Kent that was bone cheap. Had it set up with a pickup and new bridge and it plays real good. Been wanting a fretless since I've played this one. When I was in a country band decided I needed an acoustic so I got a hold of a Godin 4 string. Nice long scale bass. Good sound.
I use different bass rigs all the time. My rehearsal amp is a BR80 by Trace Elliot. Little 10 in speaker in a folded horn type cab. Killer. Even used on outside gigs and was told that the bass was too loud. This little amp I took on all the jazz gigs. One of the metal rigs is a SVT 8 10 cab with the SVT 4 head. I also use 2 410 Hartke cabs and 1 15 for a little cleaner rock sound. I use those cabs with either a Ampeg B2 head or Alembic preamp with a QSC 2400 power amp. So as for any kind of venue I might need I have. Also, have my old Acoustice 370 head and cab somewhere and a real old Ampeg accordian amp that had about 4 or 5 inputs for all kinds of stuff.
Well, I think I've pretty much put anyone asleep thats read all of this so I will sign off for the time being.
I think that every once in awhile I will add to this little piece of work.
Time for the first ADD...I've been in the MySpace for about a month now...and its pretty slick. Lots of weirdos and fakes. Thats too bad and lots people that shouldn't be able to have their mitts near a computer. These are the real freaks! You know the ones I'm talking about. These are the ones that should be locked back into their little rooms! Enough said.
So now I'm with this semi original/cover band (Blue Tear)and we seem to be making some headway. Then an obsticle drops and its back to the beginning. I see lots of people on these pages that have no talent at all and they are making tons of money in the business. And by the business I do mean the Industry. And here we are working hard making good music. True we aren't breaking any barriers but the tunes have good structure and they sound good. Simple but good. Nothing wrong with that. And we can't get a break sideways. Whats up with that? Sorry, got off on a rant again. Maybe today is not a good day to do an add. Thanks for reading. Peace.Leo
