A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF: I am a matured nerd, although I have had my share of wild and crazy experiences in my life. Being divorced, I have returned to live in San Diego (back almost a year now) after 5 1/2 years up in Eugene, Oregon. I have two kids, a 16-yr-old daughter and a 6-yr-old son. My daughter is now living with me and my son lives with their mother. I have recently had to put my dreams of completing a Master's Degree on hold due to family situations, so I am returning to the work force. I am mostly a philosopher (I have a BA in philosophy), but I also have a degree in history and much training in Latin and German. I have typically loved to study medieval history, but I am more focused on philosophy these days. Politically, I am very liberal. Religiously, I am secular, but with a taste for pagan style. I think of myself as a "bleeding heart logician" - if you want to know wht I mean by that, ask me sometime. I am intelligent, compassionate, loyal, and like good food and fine culture. Although I often have a dark, intense personality, I also enjoy comedy and laughing on a daily basis. I like gaming - board games, role-playing games, and computer games - but I do not let gaming dominate my life. Fantasy and science fiction also interest me (in games and fiction), but I equally enjoy drama, history, and other sorts of non-fiction. I love Europe, and I am a big fan of English & continental culture - movies, music, news, etc. I am a huge Monty Python fan. I am not into typical American "guy things" for the most part. I like cooking, music, good conversation, intense experience, intellectual stimulation, and physical stimulation. Fine wines, fine meats & cheeses, good cooking, good music, candlelight and incense (incesnse optional), and meaningful conversation are some of the things I consider to be a good time.I'm currently doing social work, working with at-risk teenage boys on probation in a group home. I would like to get back into the education field again, though, as that is where my heart truly is career-wise. I'm not a big-money earner, and I doubt that I ever will be, although I'd definitely like to make better money than I am now. I have a social conscience and like to help people, and that just doesn't pay well. Oh, and if anyone can help me find a gig for a stand-up philosopher, that would be awesome! ;)I am a especially good at relating to people and listening. I might have been a good therapist, had I chosen to do that with my life (I do have formal training in counseling). As a thinker and philosopher, I see big pictures and how ideas fit and work in the practical, real world. I am good with systems and designing them (not computer or technical, though, but human systems and organizations). I am very logical and highly trained in analyzing thought and belief systems - religious, political, social, and cultural.I am very good at romance (at least, on my budget) and connecting with a lady intimately and personally. I know how to enjoy a range of experiences, from the luxurious, tasteful, and classy to the common, simple, and economy-brand. I am good at cooking and appreciating fine dining, and I have a good taste in music to match. I know how to create a romantic setting, and I often do so even when no one else is there to appreciate it, simply because I like that for my own purposes. I am a loving man, good human being, and very genuine and caring.I am NOT a big-wage earner, and I barely make enough money to get by. If you are looking for a guy with a decent income, I am not that guy. I work - long and hard hours, and I am very educated and experienced, but I seem to have trouble finding a good, well-paying job, let alone a career that I love.
