-----SANDY GREENFIELD FEATURED IN THE MONTEREY HERALD NEWSPAPER (CLICK HERE FOR FULL ARTICLE):
Sandy Greenfield's debut album, 'Asking If...' is this young singer-songwriter's uniquely emotional brand of Power-Folk music: the power and throaty soul of Van Morrison combined with James Taylor's earnest and hopeful vocal stylings, baked in the California sun and buoyed by a hip-hop backbeat.
Sandy Greenfield's 'appealing, burnished voice' is strong yet soothing. His songs echo the laid-back acoustic vibe of a Jack Johnson, with the introspective, emotional lyrics of a Nick Drake. Greenfield's blend of acoustic guitar, cello, B3 organ, piano and circular, driving drum beats provides the perfect backdrop to his voice. From the opening acoustic guitar riff of the title track, with its rollicking, old time feel, Greenfield takes us through hard rocking acoustic grooves ('Sabotage'), wistful backwoods meditations ('Cold Winter'), soothing lullabies ('Lonely Child'), and even danceable piano electronica ('Water for the Roses'). Though bizzare, Greenfield's mash up of sampled beats with live instrumentation ('Welcome', 'Now You Know') manages to remain organic throughout.
The son of a rock-music writer and DJ mother, Sandy Greenfield was raised amidst the wild pines of the Monterey Peninsula. On his debut album he strives to assimilate the sounds of the trees and of the sea into his songs, which are heavily influenced by the classic rock and pop he grew up listening to.
