I am here for Friends

About Me

Ian Spik. 20. West Covina.
I'm an audiophile, I'm obsessed with information and I write. I'm like Woody Allen with an addiction to Winamp, Wikipedia and the New York Times, except if I were Woody Allen all of his movies would suck. Annie Hall would've been a silent film about two gophers discussing the cultural significance of the Perestroika while a French man recited bad Spongebob Squarepants fan fiction. Of course, neither the Perestroika nor Spongebob existed in 1977, but maybe Star Wars would've won Best Picture at the Oscars that year*.
I listen to all kinds of music. I won't bother you with a list. If you really want to know, just try to spark up a conversation about the first band that comes to you. Chances are I can probably offer you some discussion material. Right now I'm digging Andrew Bird, Cibelle, Feist, Charles Mingus, John Williams, Panda Bear, Brian Wilson and Dinosaur Jr.
I write, I suppose. That's what I'm going to school for, at least. I used to want to be an engineer. Then I discovered higher-level mathematics and realized I like telling silly stories and ranting. The University of California at Irvine apparently thinks I'd be good at telling silly stories, too. They say that if I keep paying them a few thousand dollars every 3 months I'll be the best writer in the world. I decided that that was bullshit. Now I want to write about music. It's kind of the same, but different. I'm at Mt. San Antonio College and transferring to whoever will ask me to pay them a few thousand dollars so that I can be the best music writer in the world. They have pretty cool before and after pictures. Seriously.
If you want to visualize me, imagine the discussion that would arise between a cynical chain smoking 50-something bastard arguing awkwardly (think Curb Your Enthusiasm) with a young idealistic 9-year-old about pop culture. Now tack on a playlist operated by a person with ADHD running in the background**.
My AIM is Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
*This is not to say that Annie Hall and Woody Allen are awful--quite the contrary.
**This probably only makes sense to me.
