Michael's debut album is available NOW!
Austin, Texas’ Michael Thomas is putting his own brand on today’s country music. With an extensive background of writing and performing pop, rock, and country music, Michael is now embracing his South East Texas roots to create a new and exciting sound in the Country genre. On his debut self-titled album, Michael exemplifies his influences. Harkening back to the sounds of late 60’s and 70’s California country-rock (Gram Parsons and The Flying Burrito Brothers, Poco, The Eagles) into the 80’s fiery Cowpunk scene (Rank and File, The Blasters, Lone Justice, The Babylonian Cowboys and Dwight Yoakam). Michael is also throwing in his homegrown influences such as George Jones, Ray Price, Freddy Fender, Roy Orbison, Buck Owens and Don Williams as well as the Austin Outlaw Country sounds (Willy Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Rusty Weir) from the 70’s. As Dwight brought his Kentucky Hillbilly roots to Hollywood, Michael is bringing his “Swamps of Texas”, as he calls it, soulful roots up-to-date and he’s kicking down the door into the new millennium of county music. With a fine mixture of solid dance-hall grooves provided by drummer Rafeal Gayol and bassist Gary Herman and smoking guitar work by guitarist-producer Mac McNabb, Michael’s first solo record is a sure bet to be a hit with country and pop music fans alike. Born in Beaumont, Texas, Michael Thomas was surrounded by country music and down home, working class country attitude. “Most of these songs are based around a single character”, he says. “I’ve been around the block more than a few times and I’ve seen the best AND the worst in folks (and in myself), Michael adds … I’m just thankful that I’ve lived to tell about it”. After attending Lamar University in Beaumont, Michael relocated to Austin. “I was in a band at the time and we had a good buddy living in Austin. He got us a gig at one of the popular local clubs, we drove up and played. I’ve pretty much been here ever since. It was clear that Austin is where the music lives”. Michael’s musical background is evident in the record. Although the sound is certainly Texas Country, his years of experience as a writer and performer of pop, rock and country music comes vividly shining through on every tune. Following his Texas Country contemporaries: (Kevin Fowler, Jack Ingram, Pat Green, Randy Rogers, Cory Morrow, etc.), Michael Thomas is destined to put his own unique brand on today’s country music scene and bring even more “Texas heat” to the rest of the world. “I approach the live show like it’s a rock show. My main goal is to make the connection: Get some bodies movin’and get as many smiles on as many faces as I possibly can!”
