Buddy Holly Center

About Me

A Brief History The Buddy Holly Center is housed in the historic Fort Worth & Denver Railway Depot, providing an anchor for the Depot Entertainment District in downtown Lubbock. Located near I-27 and 19th Street, the Buddy Holly Center provides a facility that features a wide variety of programs encompassing music, music history, the visual arts and educational outreach initiatives. Visitors are presented with reminders of the railway's legacy and the building's history as a Hub of the Fort Worth & Denver Railway. In 1999, the Buddy Holly Center opened its doors to the public as a museum and fine art gallery.Buddy Holly Gallery The Buddy Holly Gallery itself is shaped like a guitar, defined by curving, piano-finished, cherry wood exhibit cases on three sides and a gloss black display wall on the fourth. It features a permanent exhibit on the life and music of Buddy Holly. Follow his life from Lubbock, Texas to his last concert near Clearlake, Iowa. Included in this exhibit are Buddy Holly's Fender Stratocaster and his famous horn-rimmed glasses. Also displayed are glasses from Elton John, who idolized Buddy as a child.Texas Musicians Hall of Fame Changing exhibitions and programs on the music and music history of Texas are featured here. Past exhibits include: Texas Music Posters, Butch Hancock's Life is a Railroad Crossing, as well as biographic depictions of Waylon Jennings, The Big Bopper, and The Crickets.Fine Arts Gallery Exhibits change regularly in this gallery space, but annual shows spot the calendar such as Celebracin (a focus on Day of the Dead activities) and Crafts, Etc. a focus on the American craftsman as artisan. B-ennial exhibits include Illuminance, a photography invitational, and Texas Works, representing a featured group of Texas artists. This gallery provides an area for the display and exploration of contemporary arts of the region and nation, as well as a glimpse into the infusion of art and music with traveling exhibits including Linda McCartney's 1960s photographs, Feelin' Groovy: Rock 'n' Roll Graphics 1966-1970, and Elliot Landy's photgraphs, Dylan at Woodstock.
