Lately, I've been somewhat nomadic as a result of a somewhat dramatic uprooting of my life in the last year. Apparantly, sometimes the universe sends a couple of spiritual weather events to aid in one's own evolution. I do have to say I'm enjoying it, it's kind of exhilerating. But then again, I guess I've always identified well with change. My medicine totem is the Coyote. He's the sacred trickster, the wise fool... I put my foot in my mouth plenty - but the Coyote energy does make us all laugh at ourselves, that's what it does... and not take this reality so darn seriously. I'm also a Sagittarius with Venus rising and a Libra moon... that's pretty self-explanatory if you know astrology. :-)
Born in the year of the Dragon, I grew up in suburban Massachusetts. At about age 16, I found the grass was greener on the concrete sidewalks of Cambridge, Somerville & Boston, which I made my home until about 2000. I did have a slight relapse (5 months) to the open road and then San Francisco in 1997, but came back in early 1998. In 2001, I picked up my life and moved it to Asheville, NC, which I had fallen in love with on my fated road trip in '97. Since then, I have lived almost equal amounts of time in Asheville and Birmingham - my two southern homes. I've been back in Asheville since 2006, but who knows when I might head back to my family in Birmingham? Only time can tell.
As far as the theatre is concerned, I have been performing since I was in 3rd grade. My music teacher at the time pulled me out of class to tell me she thought I could sing pretty well and asked me to perform "Where is Love" from "Oliver" in the elementary school talent show. That's where it all started. Favorite roles include Jesus in "Jesus Christ Superstar," Tony in "West Side Story," Dickon in "The Secret Garden," Claude Bukowski in "Hair," Johnny Guitar in "Johnny Guitar, The Musical," Kippy Sunderstrom in "Take Me Out" and Tommy in "The Who's Tommy," which I'm working on right now. Since moving back to Asheville, my theatre life has slowed down.... but I'm working on jump-starting it again!
Current Theatre Stuff: I just finished playing Tommy in "The Who's Tommy" at the Diana Wortham Theatre in downtown Asheville. Great experience!
I recently became the Director of Sales, Marketing & PR for the Asheville Arts Center - it's a life dream, combining my talent for sales/marketing with my love of the performing arts!
