Daggers was born and raised in Harlesden, North West London. An area renowned for its West Indian culture, yet infamous for its ever growing crime rate. Both of his parents were born in Trinidad, however, his father was
Caucasian with a dominantly Scottish background and his mother was Mixed-Race with a background consisting of many different cultures, from Venezuelan and Portuguese to French Creole, to name a few. This diverse background meant that Daggers was subjected to a wide variety of different music and cultures as a youth, therefore influencing his music to the present day. His parents were always very hardworking people with good morals, and still are. Growing up around their sometimes strict, but generally fun loving way of life has always made Daggers have a strong incentive for what he wants to achieve in life and how to go about getting it.
Daggers or DM, for short, began his music career at the young age of 14, when he arrived in London from a 6 week trip to Trinidad to visit his family. On arrival he started to notice many more things about London than he did previously. After listening to the Dead Prez album, Let's Get Free, constantly for several months, Daggers and his closest friend at the time began making beats and writing lyrics at their school, as neither of them had the equipment of their own. Shortly after, DM dropped out of school and began living his own way of life, doing whatever he felt necessary to get hold of equipment for himself and to have enough money to do what he wanted. After a couple of years, the two friends went their separate ways.
DM continued to make beats and write lyrics whenever he felt the need to express his emotions. Having experienced a lot and progressed hugely in both production and rapping, Daggers then bumped into an old friend he had not seen for years, who was part of a crew called Verbal Abuse. After several nights of talking and smoking together, the two realised the huge similarities in their way of thinking and their musical interests. A few months later, DM joined up with Verbal Abuse and several other artists to create a crew called Shaolin SDMD. It is with this crew that he was able to achieve his confidence as an MC and a producer and also, where he gained his name. Daggers is an abbreviation of the name Dago Monk. Dago is not only a word to explain his ethnicity and background, but it also explains his way of life on the streets. The word, Monk, simply derives from his love of Chinese martial arts and philosophy.
The crew continue to work with each other, however, after a vital member tragically passed away three years ago many artists have gone their separate ways, including DM. He has since been launching his solo career as an artist.
