Larry Everhart is a joy to watch play the harmonica. Larry is commonly heard to jest "It's just a toy" but the harmonica is definitely not a toy in his expert hands. He has the ability to lift this powerful instrument to new heights handling percussion licks as well as providing full horn accompaniment. Larry has performed live with local Detroit greats Jo Serrapere, Rollie Tussing III, the late Mr. Bo Collins and many others.
Larry can be heard on several tasty national as well as Detroit recordings. Rollie Tussing III uses Larry's talents on several cuts of his 1995 self-titled recording on the Delta Snap label, and on his 1999 "Blow Whistle Blow" recording on One-Man Clapping records out of Chicago. Larry also plays with Rollie on the "Motor Town Music Festival 1999" CD along with the Motor Town Juke Boys on the Creative Music Services label. Larry is also an integral part of Carl Henry's solo recordings.
Larrys been involved with many music societies and organizations such as S.P.A.H. (Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica). This incredible organization includes only the best in the business. Larry is a fitting addition to this exclusive group of cats (sorry just had to do it). Coupling his talents with others in this elite group makes for a trip into what the harmonica is capable of. Larry performed in their 1997 "S.P.A.H. Blues Blowoff Video" with the Mark Hummel Blues Band and kept up with these aficionados with ease. Hes performed at many S.P.A.H. gatherings and has delighted each audience.
Also a longtime member of the Detroit Blues Society Larry has gained respect as one of the top harmonica players in town. Through the blues society he met up with Carl Henry, a dynamic Dobro player and soulful vocalist Maggie McCabe. In 2000 they formed the acoustic blues trio Maggies Farm. The band's six year run with Carl was enjoyed by many at clubs and festivals. The "Farm" continues to perform sometimes with a guest third member or as a duo with Larry and Maggie.
Larry is active in the Shelby Township Music Society, the Paint Creek Folklore Society and the Attic Dwellers Music Society. Hes also recently been featured in stage productions such as Rochester Avon Players Youth Theatres 2005 production of Huck Finn and the Rochester Avon Players Community Theatres 2005 production of Big River. The Legendary Roger Miller wrote all the music for Big River, a Tony Award winning play. Larry was under the direction of conductor Chris Keen with a full orchestra in the pit. Each performance was elevated by the strong presence of Larrys harmonica.
In early 2007 Larry hooked up with Guitar Wizard Larry Stevens. Larry Stevens not only can play just about any style of music on his collection of many Acoustic Guitars, Nationals and Dobros, he can also totally build and repair great instruments like these. (That's his Day Job) Together Larry and Larry are called "L.L. Blues". They recently competed in the Detroit Blues Society Solo/Duo Blues challenge Finals at the Majic Bag in Ferndale. Even though they didn't win they had a great response and partied with all the musicians through the evening. L.L. Blues can be seen at many venues around town and have been known to throw down some tasty Folk Blues, Jazz, and Country.
