i have a new love for that glittering instrument, the human soul. It is a lovely & unique thing

About Me

i am a pessimistic optimist. English is my forte, yet for some reason i'm a biology major. i coach water polo for my own personal enjoyment and work as a barista in a local coffee shop to make ends meet. i was baptized Roman Catholic, in accordance with my latin roots, yet am a practicing Buddhist Episcopalian. i'm not very good at either. i believe that human fallibility is the third certainty of life, right beside death and taxes, but feel that it's the possibility of redemption and self-actualization that make us beautiful. i think that perfection would be boring, but feel that the pursuit of it is noble. i have an obsession with water and a macabre relationship with heights. Joshua Tree, on a good day, inspires me, and, on a bad day, is the source of my greatest frusteration and pain. Like almost everyone else my age i'm a chronic procrastinator. i miss my coyotes. i was raised on tea and will choose it every time over coffee. i hate the word "frappuccino". Music is what gets me through the day. i'm like a large guard dog; if you feed me and show me affection i'll be your best friend and the most welcome pain in your ass, but if you piss me off it's in your best interests to leave me be. Needless to say i'm fairly stubborn. i'm indecisive yet am almost always made to call the shots. i'm the Chaplain of my fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, because for some reason my brothers deemed it a good idea to make the worst role model in our chapter the biggest. Reading is one of the ways i like to pass the time, but i don't do it near often enough. i run the gamut from hopeless nerd to too cool for school. i'm Inland Empire born and bred, and can see why people have such disdain for the place. i also understand that, if done correctly, it has all the potential for an ideal hometown. Some people call me the space cowboy, some call me the gangster of love. Some people call me Maurice, but they're wrong and not to be trusted. As you can see, i have trouble bringing things to a close.

My Interests

Anything that involves water that isn't frozen; water polo, swimming, surfing, fishing, the rain, thunderstorms. Steinbeck, Joshua Tree (when i'm not required to jump any amount of distance), medicine, cooking (Mexican food, the occaisional Italian dish and breakfasts), Scottish culture, Mexican culture, Japanese culture, piercings, tattoos, and all types of music.
