I've had the opportunity thru Open Mic events to witness talent that should be known by everyone in the world right here in the ATL. Our last Mic Sessions was one of the best by far in my opinion and every event becomes more and more a delight. There are some truly gifted and talented artist out here pouring there heart out and giving of themselves that truly deserve our support. That's why from now own instead of just artist that are known, you will hear music of artist on this page that are not well known. WE all know there is music out there that truly doesn't deserve the light of day much less played on the airwaves but we know why that is. These so called artist are not artist but entertainers and believe me there is a difference. Honestly, these kinko copies are so much alike that I really can't tell one from the other and that's across the board through all genres of music. So with that being said and being known WE have to do our part to SUPPORT REAL ARTIST and especially your local and indie artist. To me those are the ones that's giving us what we want to hear and feel. Because if we don't, what is at stake...big corporations telling us this is what you should buy??? Constantly feeding us negative images and thoughts that eventually control how we feel or think about each other as humans. I'm sure WE all can agree that music can control our emotions, make us happy when were sad, make us cry when were content, or even make us hate when were generally loving. Me, I love to listen to music that inspire me to move and take action or give me pleasant thoughts. Plus, with me being a very proud father I owe it to my son. Me and him listen to nothing but the best jazz, soul, and hip-hop @ times all the time. In fact one of his favorite songs is Summer Breeze by The Isleys Brothers. How impressive is that for a 5 year old and he practically knows all the words...lol! He's a Jill Scott fan, Stanley Clarke and the list goes on and on.At the moment this is pouring out of me at this time, and it all may not come together and flow like it should but I hope you understand where I'm coming from. Support the realness, support reality! If your not into good music, acknowledging TRUE talent, and patronizing it, as well as getting involved in community issues to better our environment, then your at the wrong page. Were about self empowering ourselves to bring about true FREEDOM to build a future for our youth. WE despise what's being played on the airwaves as hip-hop, or soul, or even rock. This so called music is an insult to our intelligence and is made to keep us in a mentally idle state of being. A lot of these self proclaimed artist and I use the word artist loosely have no idea what it takes to be true to there art form. Now days, these artist who are paraded in front of us as being HOT are puppet's on a string selling there soul for cash or the promise of fame. These individual's will do anything, wear anything, and say anything without stopping to question there on integrity. Unfortunately we live in society of immoral, inhumane, indecent, and uncivilized savages. So if you’re already offended by my opinion then surely what WERE about is not for you. Just wanted to inform you a head of time, so you won't waste any of your time.This concept of what were doing evolved itself late last year and came to be what it is the beginning of this year. Myself and 2 other partners(Ntellect being one)came to the conclusion that we were sick & tired of the same ol so called Hip-Hop music, so called Jazz, so called Rock, and so called Soul that we were hearing. As well as being tired of what was going on with our community and people not wanting to come together and get involved. WE wanted to see REAL Artist that have a lot to share through there music, poetry, knowledge, vision, idealism, and experiences come together to create a Movement. But not any kind of Movement, a Movement to help bring about change somewhat in society. And if not in society as a whole at least in our community. WE feel that through music, since music moves us, inspire us, and motivates us that people of like minds would come 2gether and BUILD. Fortunately for us and the blessings of the Almighty Creator we've been able to accomplish far beyond what we expected and then some.OMD(Open Mic Discussions)has been an ever changing but well needed concept that has taken on it's own spirit. Since our 1st event in January we have been commended on what we are accomplishing and asked to not let it fall to the waste side. Myself and Ntellect are very passionate about what were doing and where we are heading with OMD. OMD was not about poet's coming out and firing up the mic or LIVE bands boobing head's. It's about all of that and us being able to NETWORK and BUILD with 1 another. WE try to help and support Black owned small business by letting them vend at our event so the community can know who these people are and show them some support. WE have TRUE Artist that come in from other cities and states to shine on the mic so that they can get there name out there & get support for what they do. OMD has become such a vehicle of it's own that there are times we don't know what's going to happen from show to show. I would have never imagined that people who have attended OMD would bring such talent to our Movement and we are VERY Thankful!If you haven't been out then you need to come and see for yourself. It may not be for everyone but WE do know it's for a select few that's going to STAND UP for the Movement of being humane in a inhumane society.In final, to bring about change we must stand up for what we believe in no matter what.
