About Me

Los Angeles based Shocknina strive for truth and intensity. Lead singer Nina expresses herself with raw, honest lyrics culled from her rich life experiences. The bands heavy yet dynamic sound provides power with a unique individual style.Nina and producer/drummer/guitar player Bruce Somers began working together shortly after Somers former band kidneythieves lost their singer. He met Nina while looking for a new vocalist with whom to collaborate. The group is rounded out by two other former kidneythieves members: bassist Fijt and drummer Sean Sellers.Kidneythieves enjoyed underground success releasing 2 acclaimed albums and selling over 100,000 units. The band completed various national tours (booked by Jenna Adler at CAA) with such acts as Chevelle, the Used, Tommy Lee, Sevendust, and KMFDM.Shocknina has often been described as a combination of Garbage, Evanescence, Nine Inch Nails and Linkin Park. Their sound combines contemporary rock with distinctive grooves and beats. We strive for something unique but intense in the studio, says Somers, then blow it out to the next level when we go live. The lyrics relate real-life scenarios. Finding the truth in myself and expressing it is what I strive for in my life, Nina says. When I cant make music, I feel myself dying inside.Nina has seen a lot in her short life. Raised in Denmark, Nina frequently traveled around Eastern Europe as a child with her Russian Gypsy grandmother. As a teenager, she studied dramatic arts in London and ballet at the world famous Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. At age 16, Nina moved to New York City by herself. This change provided the opportunity to further her studies at Julliard, NYU and the Magic Circle of Opera.Throughout this period, she danced on major international concert tours with various artists including Prince. Multiple acting roles followed on Broadway, TV soaps, MTV, Craig Kilborn, The Tonight Show and E! Television. She has appeared in numerous music videos and television commercials while continuing to model throughout her career. The collective experience and abilities of the members of Shocknina have produced very strong results. Their prolific non-stop writing and recording yields new material weekly. Their live performances pair their powerful studio recordings with a dynamic sound and visual experience. These veteran artists have found the right combination of talents and sounds to take their music to the next level and beyond
