A man and woman were charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of a Berwyn man late last week.Berwyn police officers responded at 8 p.m. Dec. 18 to the 2500 block of Cuyler Street and found Christopher Rivera, 19, of the 6300 block of West 26th Street, shot in the head, Berwy Mayor Robert Lovero said.Paramedics transported Rivera to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where he was pronounced dead shortly after, Lovero said.An autopsy showed Rivera died from a single gunshot wound to the head and declared the death a homicide, according to officials from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.An investigation by the Berwyn Police Department, U.S. Marshal’s Task Forces and the Cook County State's Attorney’s office resulted in the arrest of Sergio Martinez, 19; and Ysole Krol, 20, both of Chicago.Lovero said the shooting was not gang related, and Rivera’s family helped to identify the possible suspects in the murder. Rivera and the two charged had known each other years ago and may have been friends before the incident, Lovero said.Officers from the Berwyn Police Department were not immediately available for comment on the case.Krol was present for a bond hearing at a Cook County courthouse Tuesday, Dec. 22, where bond was set at $2 million. Martinez turned himself into police Monday, Dec. 21, and will appear at a bond hearing Wednesday, Dec. 23, according to Lovero.
