About Me

The Void are a Manchester Rock 'n' Roll Band with a BIG sound. They started up in early 2003 when Joe Wilson and Steve Irlam first met at college. After jamming with various vocalists and bassists, the definitive line up of today was eventually decided in the autumn of 2004. This line up consisting of Joe Wilson on guitar, Steve Irlam on Drumkit, Danny Carrington on Bass and Callum Murphey as frontman proved a formidable force against any other band of similar genre.Joe's guitar playing skills are a truly honed talent, consisting of simple riffs and melodic solos over his own accompaniment all played with his fingers. Priding himself on the fact that he never uses a pick, allows him to play amazing solo's that sound so different to everything else out there, but staying well grounded to the blues/rock/maximum RnB style of the rest of the band. The outstanding musicianship of this awesome guitarist is as easily evident throughout the band. Steve, who's been drumming since the age of nine, has a very Moon-esque sound to his drumming, however, his playing ability shows a more textbook technique. A drummer with the soul of Keith Moon yet the technical ability of John Bonham is a certain force to be reckoned with, and Steve Irlam is without doubt that force. The bass playing of Dan Carrington is a perfect compliment to the music providing a powerful link between the drums and guitar. His beautiful five string bass is certainly used to its full potential with this bass player at the helm. A perfect example of this is his two bar solo on Paul usher's song, Tease me (written by Steve Irlam), in which he manages to incorporate a nice lick, some slap and a gorgeous harmonic to round it off. To fit all that into such a small solo section with such taste is a tough thing to do, yet Dan pulls it off with ease and is even now, gaining fast in his technical ability. Its frightening how good it seems this guy is going to be in the near future. I can't wait! Finally we come to the frontman. Now lets be honest here; A band with this talent in this day and age will get nowhere if their frontman isn't up to scratch, regardless of how good the rest of the band is. However, Callum Murphey is without doubt what this band really needed. His stage presence is reminiscent of people like Liam Gallagher, Steve Marriot and Tom Meighan with a little Ian Brown thrown in for good measure. He has much different approach to being a frontman to the majority of lead vocalists out there today. He refrains from running round the stage like an lunatic, screaming his face off, yet his aura expresses a certain degree of arrogance that is sorely missed throughout the music industry today. However, this does not mean to say he's nothing new, and its all been done before. As with the rest of the band, he takes the best of the past and adds his own new twist to it.This band really knows what they want and they're gonna get it, especially if they keep progressing as fast as they have so far. If you've missed that big sixties blues rock sound, your a big fan of The Who, Pink Floyd or Oasis, or your just thriving for something new and different, The Void are without doubt the Band for you. Dare I say it... THE NEXT REAL REVOLUTION IN POPULAR MUSIC!James Marley (2006)
