Hoist That Rag..

About Me

I'm a dork. I talk too much when I'm nervous. I like people and people watching. I get quite and shy around the same sex, but am too touchy-feely with the ladies (just ask them). I love everyone I work with. I'm a good person with a bad background. I'm liberal, smart, funny, handsome, have a strong work ethic, take very little crap from very many people; I like films and television, art and museums, parks and beaches, people and people-watching, babies, puppies, kittens and fish, I have a rather strange habit of talking out loud to birds, (maybe I shouldn't put that in here, but it's really not as strange as it sounds...I mean shit, people talk to traffic, their pets, plants, babies, tools, cars and boats...).I'm a pretty good person and you should know me.

My Interests

Languages and the way people communicate. Facial expressions. Music and the noises people and machines make. I'm currently mildly obsessed with rearranging the flags of the world and changing their colors...we'll see what happens

I'd like to meet:

Everyone.

Music:

A wet (ok damp) dream of mine is to cast Bjork and Tom Waits in Annie Get Your Gun, other than that I'll go through my iPod: Alice in Chains, Beethoven, Bjork, Cornelius, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Dvorak, Fear Factory, Jamiroquai, Jethro Tull, Kate Bush, Ethel Merman, NIN, Pop Will Eat Itself, Primus, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Smiths, Tom Waits, Tool, Type O Negative, U2

Movies:

IFC when they were good. (Sorry but the channel has gone downhill): Jarmush, Woo, Fishing With John, Spalding Grey Films, Soderberg, Kirusawa, etc. Of course, there's all the Hollywood trash that I'm too smug to admit to.

Television:

Really crappy crime dramas...you know the drill...if you wanna watch Law & Order there's one on either TNT, TBS, USA, NBC, Bravo, etc. Food Network, West Wing, Twilight Zone, X-Files, Alias (before it sucked), House and whatever's on the Discovery, History and Science Channels

Books:

The Bible, The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, The Scepter of Egypt, The Egyptian Book of the Dead, The Quran, Survival by Hunting, The Cave of John the Baptist, After the Ice, Stealing History, Collapse, Guns Germs and Steel, The Fate of Africa, Fingerprints of the Gods, When the Sky Fell, Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings, Paths of the Pole, Secrets of the Great Pyramid, Orientalism, Power Politics, Arundhati Roy, Dry, The Seeds of Speech, The Mother Tongue, How Soccer Explains the World, Fever Pitch, Among the Thugs, Why is Sex Fun?, The Codebook, Fast Food Nation, The Rise of Totalatarianism, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, Memoirs of a Race Traitor, Ethical Realism,The Great Transformation, Suicide Academy, Who Shall Live Who Shall Die, Oracle Bones, The Human Condition, and tomes concerning linguistic studies of other languages.

More Deadly Misinformation

This may be a bit long...In a recent conversation with a friend the subject of abstinence-only policies regarding HIV infection rates in Africa came up. I insisted that abstinence-only is a dangerous ...

Praise for Jimmy Carter

Recently I finished reading "Palestine: Peace not Apartheid", and I need to write out my thoughts on the book and the publics reaction to it. Myspace is the unfortunate victim of this tirade. So...
