About Me
On a faithful October 22nd in 1982, John B Major Scale was born to Godwin and Juliet. That day was truly one to remember as there was something really special about this boy. To the amazement of the doctor and the midwife, his umbilical cord wasn't attached to his mother, it was attached to a MPC 3000 drum machine. From that day on, everyone knew that John Major was literally born to make music. (Excerpt taken from 60 Minutes-Copyright CBS circa 1982).Okay seriously. Here's the real bio.“There are beat makers, and then there are Music Producers. A producer has the entire vision of a song from instruments to vocal arrangement and even the video visuals. This is where the wheat is separated from the chaff.†Chijioke John Osuji, better known as “John Majorâ€, is a multi faceted composer, arranger, and song writer. Having been raised in the rough streets of New York City, the Jerusalem and the origin of hip hop, and as the son of a former DJ and an African immigrant, John Major was raised in a musical setting and was taught to play different instruments and exposed to a wide variety of music at an early age. He has musical influences from some of the greatest minds in the recording industry such as Nat King Cole, Little Richie, Quincy Jones, and more recently, The Neptunes, Polow Da Don, Kanye West and Timbaland. In addition to being a music producer, John Major has worn many hats successfully within the recording industry as a casting director, treatment writer, artist manager, and talent booker. He has worked with some of the biggest names in the recording and film industry including artists, and directors alike. In one capacity or another, he has worked with juggernauts such as Konvict Muzik (Akon, T-Pain), Bad Boy (P Diddy, Yung Joc), Young Jeezy (CTE/Island Def Jam), Outkast (Arista), renowned video directors Chris Robinson, Jesse and Ulysses Terrero, and Little X are amongst a few of the industry greats he has been fortunate to work with.
Initially, John Major started his foray into the music industry as a rapper in his early teens. He started a multi talent oriented group aptly named, “Area 51†which comprised of break-dancers, DJ’s, graffiti artists, and rappers; all the elements that are a staple in the origins of hip hop culture. After being approached by numerous local artists, managers, and even churches for his music production, he began taking his talent seriously. Armed with an arsenal of keyboards, sound modules, a beat machine and a toothbrush, J Major started spending days and nights in the studio alongside his mentors, one of whom also happened to be one of the late great James Brown’s percussionists. This eventually led to him landing his first industry gig at Arista Records with the famed hip hop group, Outkast.
After working under the tutelage of then Arista Execs Angela Johnson and Eric Turner, he signed a small production deal allowing him to work with Arista’s up and coming artists and affiliate labels. It was there he learned the callous inner workings and the business of the music industry.
With a Bachelor’s from Clayton State University in Information Technology, a wealth of recording industry knowledge, keen business acumen, and faith in God, John Major is here to stay and hopes to become a beacon of light to the generation that follows him as the ones before him were. This young producer on the grind is on the fast pace to success and becoming a household name.“John Major is Hip Hop.†John Major Ent JM
