Brooklyn's son, Bed-Stuy his father. Brother of street cracks & broken bottles, his sister the cracked pipes & babies mommas. The hood gave life to the futures prodigy & named him Tuan X. Raised in the bowels of song, music is his testament, his fans the deliverance. (Phase 1) his proclamation of a self-made evolution; his transition from child to man. His music, the beginning of a careers promise for change.
Born November, 23 rd 1986, Tuan X was raised in the 80s era of expression. Influenced as a child by the music of Michael Jackson, his dream to entertain was sparked at a young age. Raised in the not so glorious neighborhood of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn NY, it was an uphill struggle for his family to maintain & provide the necessities of life.
Through his adolescent years Tuan was influenced by the sounds of Tupac, Luther Vandross, The Notorious BIG, & R. Kelly. He would freestyle rhymes & sing in his mirror daily, join choirs in school & take any opportunity he could to shine, visualizing his dreams for the future.
During his teenage years, Tuan would go through a giant phase in his life. Having lived his freshman year of High School in Virginia, he was influenced by their accent & style, slightly adopting both. Also diving deeper into music, he became inspired by the sounds of early Pharrell production, the flow of Jay-Z, the melodies of Genuwine, the punk rock sound of Limp Bizkit, & the rock sounds of Creed & Aerosmith. On his move back to Bed-Stuy, his Sophomore year, he became blinded by the hood. Unbeknownst to his family he joined a set of the Crips street gang (the name of this set will remain undisclosed) & began living a violent lifestyle; robbing, fighting, & drive-by's we're not unusual sights & experiences for him. He befriended a young man by the name of James a.k.a. Smoke, who was 3 years older than Tuan but looked up to him & his views on life. The loss of Smoke, in a robbery gone wrong, when Tuan was 16, changed his life from then on. A failed attempt at suicide ironically gave him hope for the future.
Tuan began enlightening his mind & heart. Becoming a more culturally conscious individual & a romantic at heart. He became influenced by the music of Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Common, Maxwell, & Lauryn Hill, whose wisdom helped frame his mind. Tuan began writing poetry; revealing for the 1 st time ever his inner pains, desires, loves & beliefs. It was a man by the name of George Edward Tait who pushed him to be as creative as he possibly can, not to follow the norm, & to create something people will cherish for ages. Tuan began writing politically conscious rhymes & love songs taking any opportunity he could to display these gems.
Since graduating High School, Tuan X has been heavily focused on delivering his music to the masses. He remains a face in the poetry/spoken-word scene throughout the NYC area & is beginning to make a name for himself in the world of music. Following the advice of George Edward Tait, he continues to grow as a writer. Not wanting to limit himself to any particular genre he dreams to deliver music transcending the genres of R&B, Hip-Hop, Funk, Alternative, Soul, & Pop. His upcoming underground album (Phase 1) is a blend of Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul & Pop & deals with his transition from a negative gang lifestyle to a positive romantic one. His words are real, his vocals are soothing, his flow is poetically inspired. Tuan X is a breath of fresh air in Urban music & a glimmer of hope for those who struggle to achieve.
