With firm footing on Planet Earth, there is an openness of conviction about this Canadian guitar-based band that is refreshing and undeniable. This is a band with a mission.
Sit down with any member of the band - singer/guitarist Dave Cunningham, lead guitarist Will Cook, bassist Lucas Dybinski or drummer Dan Loach - and you’re immediately pulled into their orbit. They look you in the eye and do not waver. You want to root for these guys; you want to work with them and share in their success.
Their melodies and wistful lyrics may draw you to them and make you think it’s you they’re talking about, but SOS don’t pander to anybody. Their forte is strength of vision that enables them to see past the flavor of the month to something universal.
Their steady, unrushed pace in this journey is deliberate and suits them just fine. “We’ve worked hard to earn the respect of our fans,†explains Dave. “We’ve strengthened our live performance so that it not only matches a recording, but moves the audience in ways that only a live show can. We want our live show to speak for itself, and so far the audiences have been very good listeners.â€
Stuck on Saturn is in it for the long haul. Despite an independent EP that
has sold beyond the band’s wildest dreams, SOS has yet to release an album
representative of its best material.
SOS’s strategy diverges from the usual tour-until-you-drop model. Instead,
they’re earnestly researching kindred bands worldwide, hoping to discover a
production and recording scenario that fits their needs. “We’re open to
other options, but for now, we’re looking for a producer and record label who
see the value in our music and are interested in working with us. We’re trying
to put together solid relationships.â€
Stuck on Saturn is aiming high. Smart lyrics matched to well-built melodies make SOS’s output something to look forward to. Spin any one of the songs off listed above and you’ll come to this conclusion: This band is ready.
