About Me
This is the OFFICIAL BreakDown International myspace page!
At a time when the members of society have aligned their identity with their
sexuality, a powerful movement has begun to form, causing a revolution in
the hearts and minds of this generation. We are Breakdown.Ministering to the hearts and minds of this sexually-inundated generation,
Breakdown is a national organization blending Drama, Choreographed Dance,
Spoken Word/Poetry and other performing arts into one cohesive message. It
is a message of integrity, character and purity that challenges the
"sex-without-consequences" mentality. Promoting sexual abstinence until
marriage, Breakdown tackles the tough issues of teen pregnancy, sexually
transmitted diseases, second chances, sexual assault, self-esteem and teen
relationships. We stand for true sexual freedom. We are Breakdown.BREAKDOWN HISTORYIn 2001, at age 21, Aimee Short (now Dobbins) started the process of building what is now BreakDown. Her God-Given vision was massive, knowing that what she was setting out to create was not meant for Tucson, or even the United States, but the world. Starting with a group of a dozen dancers, the team grew to include a cast of 8 drama members, a small technical team and one motivational speaker. BreakDown's first full program debuted in 2002 on a tiny outdoor stage in San Manuel, Arizona. The 10x14 foot projection screen caught wind and blew over, but overall it was a great success. The team continued to grow in numbers, professionalism, and visibility, and in 2003 began it's expansion into Phoenix, Arizona. Aimee knew that the Phoenix expansion was the first of many more to come.In August of 2005 the combined Arizona teams traveled to Hollywood, California to premier BreakDown to the world on an international stage. Thus, the National Expansion was born, birthing new teams all over the country including Indianapolis Indiana, St. Louis Missouri, Chicago Illinios, Grand Rapids Michigan, Springfield Ohio, Van Wert Ohio, Joplin Missouri, Gary Indiana, Fargo North Dakota, and Port St. Lucie Florida. Also in 2005, divine providence allowed Aimee to be introduced to a man who would change her life, and enlist BreakDown in the battle against AIDS in Africa. Apostle Alex Mitala, one of the founders of the virginity movement in Uganda, joined forces with Aimee and BreakDown to bring it's life saving message to Uganda, Africa, creating BreakDown Uganda. On July 14th of 2006, 49 Americans flew to Uganda as part of the first BreakDown International trip. Joining forces with the new BreakDown Uganda team, consisting of AIDS orphans and other youth impacted by the disease, BreakDown USA and BreakDown Uganda worked together to premier the African program at the National Soccor Stadium in Kampala on July 22nd, 2006. And the rest is, as we say, history. More opportunities continue to open up all over the U.S. and in countries all over the world as the message of BreakDown spreads. The summer of 2007 was an important milestone for BreakDown as the Tucson team premiered the New Show, and more importantly, when we held the first National BreakDown Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. We are no longer seperate teams all over the country, we are BREAKDOWN UNITED! One team, one vision, one purpose, one voice. This next year is looking to be the most exiting and significant year yet. The 2nd Annual National BreakDown Conference will be in Orlando, Florida July 23rd-26th 2008 (yes, all former and current BD members are welcome!). A smaller compilation BreakDown team will then head onto Ecuador to meet up with the BreakDown Ecuador team (in formation now) to do outreach in the schools, and do an event with the Ecuador team! This trip is planned for July 28th-August 4th, 2008! And one of the BIGGEST announcements of ALL... we are in the process of establishing what will be the BreakDown National TOUR. This will not be until at least the 2008-2009 school year, which is really just around the corner!Get ready guys, because "When opportunity comes, it's too late to prepare!"
