"Grew up in the Mayberry town of Cape Girardeau, Missouri a town that struggled between staying Mayberry and becoming like the "Big Rawleigh" city 120 miles to the north. The Mason-Dixon line ran right through the center of town and everything from Broadway to the Gulf of Mexico belonged to the South. The music was ten years old, the food was satisfying, and the nightlife experimented lightly to live up to its ideas of a big city. There was one gay bar, one black bar, and everything else fell somewhere between chronic redneck roadhouse and wanna be college night clubs.
