About Me

Liz Berg is enjoying her role with the best corporate band in the state, Deja Vu! Along with this band and a sister band, DV8, Berg has been performing in situations that range from duos to 12 piece bands! Check them out when they appear near you! If that isn't enough, Berg's karaoke band, The Karaoke Dokies, has been championed by Kid Rock, himself, along with numerous Chicago Cub and White Sox players!
February 19, 2008: Liz Berg's Coattails CD gets another glowing review from chicagoathome.com:
Liz Berg once told me in a letter that her latest record, Coattails, ‘can best be described as modern indie pop rock. Confused? Well, wait until I tell you that it is essentially a concept album about religious approval, relationships and the type of fame people cling to unnecessarily.’ OK, that’s all well and good, but you can also add female empowerment to that list. After listening to this record, that is surely on of the things you will feel as a woman.
Yes, female empowerment. You might be able to get that idea through a lot of avenues nowadays, and if you’re doing it through music (which you should), I’m hoping that the Spice Girls is not the vehicle you are using to get there. Let Liz Berg get behind the wheel, and let Coattails take you there. It will surely be an enjoyable ride.
While it may be hard to pick up on Coattails as being a concept album of sorts, what isn’t hard to pick up on is the sheer talent that Berg possesses. Berg plays all of the guitars on this album, sings all of the vocals, and even lends her bass skills to I Will Not Apologize and her drumming talents to DIY. Not to mention Berg also solely wrote every single word on Coattails. Now, if that isn’t female empowerment right there, I don’t know what is. Sure the Spice Girls are empowering in their own right, but they can’t even say that they ever wrote all of the lyrics to one of their records, and Liz Berg can. Speaking of the album’s closing track, DIY, I could sit here and write some of Berg’s inspiring lyrics, but that is a journey you should be taking yourself. If you have an issue or a problem you are currently trying to work through, let Berg and DIY help you.
As a matter of fact, almost every song on Coattails can help out in some fashion. Berg has a nice flare for being able to pen relatable songs, and lyrics in which the everyday listener can apply to their own life. That is something that sets her apart from a lot of other female musicians.
This is not simple female musician Lilith Fair-type fodder. Coattails is a powerful journey through heartbreak, loss, religion, love, fame and everything in-between.

Berg's song, "I Will Not Apologize," was recently featured on Chicago's finest radio station, WXRT (93.1). DJ Richard Milne described Berg's Coattails CD as "full of knockout tunes."
Liz Berg was featured in the Nov. 30 Our Sound feature in the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper. Berg was also featured in the April 20, Weekend Plus of the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper. Music critic Jim DeRogatis named her Coattails CD as one of his local favorites and went as far to say that her song, “God Says,” ranks beside other great musings on the Almighty such as Cursive’s “Happy Hollow” and XTC’s “Dear God.” He also described her sound as “sexy pop-rock” and accurately pointed out that her intention is to make smart rock that is “gutsy and meaningful.”
The Illinois Entertainer: “Singer-songwriter Liz Berg’s rough-around-the-edges approach infiltrates her second album, Coattails, with a smattering of PJ Harvey-like vocals. The inherent spookiness of Polly Jean’s compositions are absent from this effort, but Berg makes do with her own brand of “I am woman, hear me roar” rock. “Silent” stands out as a Celtic-enhanced ditty.”–Janine Schault
Smother magazine: “Rebellious lyrics evoke a liberal mindset and this singer/songwriter isn’t holding anything back. Tackling such hot topics as religion, politics, racism, and drugs, Liz Berg doesn’t stray from anything controversial. Her music is straight-forward pop-rock with steady rhythms and catchy choruses. Liz boasts a strong singing voice and her powerful sophomore record is one that will get her name out in the industry.”–J-Sin
After years as a decorated guitarist, Liz Berg began her emergence as a stand-out vocalist and songwriter in 1997. Since then she has given hundreds of performances between Los Angeles and London and in her hometown of Chicago has been recognized by print media that includes The Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Sun-Times, Riverside Landmark, Berwyn Gazette, and Suburban Life newspapers.
A highly versatile persona, Berg has hosted her own radio show, acted in many feature films, created and taught classes in Songwriting and Rock and Roll History, and has been a visible teacher and jobbing musician in Los Angeles and Chicago. Berg is also a member of ASCAP and the Recording Academy.
Although Berg has been recognized in many roles, she perceives the role of songwriter as the most important. Berg's 2003 indie release, Not the Same was a declaration of independence and non-conformity themes and sold in 5 countries. Berg's 2007 release, Coattails, is a social commentary on the tests of morality and forgiveness that affect relationships. Berg's "God Says" was recently spotlighted on the Local 101 internet showcase from the Chicago rock/alternative station, Q-101.
Berg's versatility is such that she can do acoustic or electric shows with her band or solo.
