About Me

I was born in a concrete jungle and grew up in the sticks. When I was a kid I would write songs to little one note melodies on my dad's old Gibson Songbird. I got bored with it. I wanted to be a scientist don't ask me why. I got a chemistry set for christmas one year and figured out I hated math after several failed experiments. I wanted to be an actor for a while and that went on for a long time I was in theatre through most of high school since they didn't have any music programs at good ole Detorit High. My senior year I was reintroduced to a man I had met two or three years earlier who I had always been fascinated with. Mr. Brian Romero not only played the guitar he built them to and that was amazing to me. I came to Bri with a plan, I wanted him to show me two or three chords that I could use to get my hands used to switching chords and when I got comfortable with those I would use his standard issue chord chart to learn from there. He showed me an E minor and an A minor and I practiced every single day after school in his living room. After about 4 or 5 weeks I started looking to the chart for guidance and things took off. I wrote my first song w/ a full set of chords by the time I graduated that year and had learned several other songs as well. I took off that summer to Phoenix, Az for a week or two and absorbed some of the sounds that were going on in that heat filled city. This is around the time I suddenly decided I wanted to be a punk rocker. When I got back to Texas I formed Living by Numbers with my cousin Jeremy and some other fine fellows another notable character in the line-up was Mr. Wesley Joe Malone on skins. We did this for a while got a pretty good local following and then suddenly I realized I'm sick of this screamin'. I went and recorded my first solo session at Holy Bond just to have some recollection of what was going through my head at the time. Got together with this killer guitar play Jonathon Perry and picked up Seth Walker on bass and a new friend from PJC Kevin Brett on the drums. We had a time in this band we played the first and only gig ever performed in Hatcher Hall which is the guys dorms at PJC. This went on for a bit and Kevin and Seth played with me for about six months then things slipped. I then went on in my down time and formed the hardcore funk rock band The Fix. This band was a great experience I made three friends for life and gained a shit ton of memories on this trip. We had a great time may the legacy that was RIP. After The Fix was done I went back out as Cody Phifer and picked up Ryan Trahan on rythm guitar, Ryan Somerville on Bass and George Johnson JR. on the drums. We rocked the material like it had never been rocked before. This to ended up in peril. After this group dispersed I kicked around town solo for a while and then got picked up as lead guitar player for local singer-songwriter Michael O'neal. I learned alot from the boss man on the road and will always respect him highly, he's one of the greats. O'neal retired from the full band scene for the most part and I always have a need to play my guitar almost 24/7 so I got to work putting together another band. This band included Charles Clough, Dakota Miller, Riley Clough and myself. We had a hell of a show but creative and personal clashing tore this apart. So here I hang now in the balance writing my own bio pretty much just telling you where I've been and letting you know I'm not real sure where I'm going but once I know I'll post it all over myspace. I'm kinda the mystery guy, you never really know where I might pop up next, so be watching out for me. I'll eventually make it into your life.
