Fresheir born Kofi Hunter is next in the line of legendary Queens Mc’s.. Raised on Murdock Ave in Queens Village, he was exposed to the same creative environment that birthed the rap greats Run DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, LL Cool J, JA Rule, DJ Clue, Russell Simmons and many more.. When asked about it , Fresh often says “ there must be something in the waterâ€. All of these figures have individually inspired his art form.
Fresh’s style of music is one all his own, separating himself from the pack of New York’s under ground rappers . Blending hardcore rap music with a “conscious†undertone and great song writing, his music can be appreciated by all ages, races and sexes. Fresh and his brother/producer Kwe have often been compared to, and have been called “the 2009 Gangstarâ€. Gangstar being the legendary rapper-producer duo consisting of Rap giants DJ Premier (the producer) an Guru (the rapper). Famous for a gritty sample heavy style of beats and complex metaphoric rhymes. Kwe and Fresh have been partners since they were small children. Kwe being the older of the two brothers played an important role in cultivating Fresh as an artist. Fresh and Kwe have a creative synergy that is unmatched. They often attribute it to the fact that they were raised along side each other for there entire lives, and have experienced the same hardships and downfalls. At the tender age of 4 and 7 they lost there mother to a tragic illness. Growing up in a single parent house hold and having to depend on one another kwe, fresh and there sister grew very close. With there father working two jobs to try to make ends meat there older sister took on the responsibilities of the women of the house. These and other hardships growing up in the late 80's and 90's in New York city are what fresh and kwe say “shaped and molded them into strong menâ€.
At the age of 23 fresh has seen more and done more than most “inner-city†kids. Having traveled to Africa, Mexico, and Amsterdam, before the age of 18 he’s pretty well versed on the ways of the world. Which is why he has decided to take a stand and speak on certain issues that are plaguing his community and others around the world. Also being a 23 year old kid from queens he still likes to have fun and talk about things like girls, cars, clothes and all the pleasures of being a young man in New York city.
