Dj So LOW

About Me

THANKS FOR LISTENING
..Hailing from the multicultural Mecca Toronto, Canada, DJ So Low has developed a unique sound and style, which stems from his rich musical heritage and growing passion for musical expression.
As a child So Low was surrounded by music. His mother, a former Disco DJ exposed him to the funk filled rhythms that shaped the sound of the 70..s, while his father, a renowned session drummer planted and nurtured within So Low an infatuation for classic breaks.
DJ So Low first realized his love for music when he explored his fathers drum kit as a child. Later he would emulate his idols, the popular DJ's of the era, by scratching on his mother's turntable. His interest in musical instruments was further developed in high school when he participated in the school orchestra, learning to play the guitar, violin and cello. Although interested in classical instruments, So Low would soon return to his mothers Neo-instrument of choice, the turntable.
"My mother would always remind me not to scratch on her turntables. When she would leave the house the first thing I'd do was slap on a record and scratch the hell out of it. Sorry mom."
After having broke several of his mother's turntable needles and destroying some of her favorite pressing, DJ So Low went on to purchase his own DJ..ing equipment and began practicing his mixing and turntablist skills. It was at this time that DJ So Low was introduced to electronic music. He soon began to frequent the epic underground parties which gave Toronto..s evolving Rave scene world acclaim.
" It was all fun and games back then; staying up all night, high as a kite, dancing our asses off, making new friends. We were all just care free kids, passionate about the underground music scene that was taking Toronto by storm."
After living and breathing the Toronto rave scene, DJ So Low developed the need to participate in the creation of the music he had grown to love so much. He began experimenting with music production in the late 90..s. After purchasing some gear and experiencing the thrill of writing and producing, So Low came to the realization that music was the fundamental element which gave purpose and meaning to his life. Accompanying his new understanding came renewed direction and purpose. Shortly after his realization So Low decided to enroll in a Communications program at Ryerson University to Study Radio and Television Arts."University has helped me immensely. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for the valuable knowledge I've attained through my education. Sure, talent goes a long way, but knowing how to approach someone in a professional manner and being versed in many creative outlets such as TV technical production and new media take you down a completely different path. Somewhere I would not have been able to venture had it not been for my University education."
DJ So LOW has been producing seriously for the last several years and has acquired the respect and admiration of musicians and producers across many musical genres. He continues to develop his creative style as he is committed to learning and progressing his knowledge and understanding of musical expression. DJ So Low plans to utilize his current experience at Ryerson University to equip him with the required tools to maximize his creative potential and to explore and express his unique artistic vision.
His favorite gear to use is his E-MU E6400 Ultra sampler, Cubase/Nuendo, anything by Native Instruments, the Electrix FilterQueen and his Oxygen 8 midi keyboard.
