Ending a long period of working hard (and then hardly working!) in San Francisco, I moved to Costa Rica in 2004, where I have been involved in a career as a visual artist: my portfolio
My father, a pioneer surfer and environmentalist, operates a little beach hotel in Playa Grande, where I spend a lot of time grabbing some of the best and most consistent surf in the country. I have visited Costa Rica for many summers since I was little and worked as a guide, giving bilingual estuary tours by canoe and riverboat, visiting prime surf locations, and giving surfing lessons. I have gone with groups to remote locations like Witches' Rock & Ollie's Point, Arenal Volcano, and Rincon de la Vieja (amazing waterfalls and hot springs).
On the artist tip, I completed my first one man show in June 2005 at Costa Rica's National Gallery, one of the most difficult to enter, especially for a "gringo"- pics of the show can be seen at Ventanas al Infinito (Windows to Infinity).
Since then, I have produced three more shows: SOUND + SPACE , commissioned by Nakamichi, Visiones del Hogar (Visions of Home) at the Costa Rican/North American Cultural Center, and Colores del Estilo (Stylish Colors) at the Nakamichi showroom in Escazú.
Lately I've been working for Nakamichi as the Guanacaste rep for their home theater line, and DJing music with an international flair for my art shows and other events. I'm also selling prints locally from my catalog of high quality nature photographs of Costa Rica.
GOOD NEWS! My metafractal work was accepted to the tenth annual Bridges Conference in Donostia, Spain! Each year, this conference showcases mathematical connections in art, music, and science at a different international location. I am very proud to have had ALL FIVE of my submissions accepted to this exclusive exhibition!
Check out the accepted works and let me know what you think.
UPDATE: I had a great time at the conference, which coincided with the "Jazz al DÃa" concert series (saw the Skatalites, Gotan Project, and Horace Andy performances on Zurriola Beach!). I explored some beautiful Basque towns of Spain (San Sebastian, Zurriola, Guernica, and Bilbao) and then went on to Amsterdam and Paris. All the pictures are posted here , while you can see a selection in my photo albums on this site.
