About Me

Tasty melodies and edgy, epic songwriting makes DNEL a young band we cant wait to hear more from... -Mark Bialczak, Music Editor, The Post Standard, Syracuse./////////////Formed in the wake of several musical acts dispersing, Devil Never Even Lived started rehearsing in the holiday season of 2005. The goal was to make memorable music as a reflection of their influences and their backgrounds as musicians. Most of the songs had been written but were opened up, expanded upon and reinterpreted four person unit. The songs came quick, one after another with each musician trying out different ideas. The result is an angular and powerful outfit destined to make a noise. In their short time as a band, DNEL has played over 40 shows, including trips to New York City, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Nashville. In the month of April, local radio station 105.1 THE DOG selected them as their hometown hero band, leading to over 800 new hits a week on their website to listen to DNEL...The drums are savagely kept in time by Billy Martin, formerly of The Last Season. The bass is anchored by J Fabbri, formerly of the Electric Chick Magnets and the Jones Gang. On guitars we have John Hanus and Andy Sullivan, both formerly of Cavern. Hanus' guitar work is both screaming dissonance and sustained elegance, where Sullivan holds down the rhythms, very locked in with the rhythm section. Riding over the top of the orchestrated cacophony are Sullivan's lyrics, finding their way from his brain into the microphone and hopefully delivering a territory to walk in.The four musicians couldn't come from a wider set of influences and it's proved in their dynamic sound. The devil has nothing to do with the band or the music. It is a mere declarative statement said forward, said backward. Some people interpret the name in different ways, but one thing is clear: the music speaks the biggest statement. MyGen Profile Generator

Sounds Like: "Finding a band that is both captivating and original in today's musical landscape is very difficult, that's why experiencing a band like Devil Never Even Lived is so refreshing. DNEL blends an alternative style to early Radiohead with a real roots/Americana feel, ala the Jayhawks or Wilco, but don't do it in a way that is either glaringly obvious or musically mismatched. Their influences are subtle and they paint landscapes of sound that are both wildly unique and also vaguely familiar. This is a band who's music is so earnest and heartfelt that they would be just as content sharing a stage with a national headliner in front of thousands of people or playing in a dive bar in front of 20 people, simply because you can tell these guys play for their love of music. Devil Never Even Lived is a band that defies categorization and demands you attention. I recommend you give it to them." Scott Dixon, Program Director, Rock 105 The Dog, WWDG/Clearchannel Syracuse.
