Biography
Jameka “Jimmi Pynk†Dobbs has always been deep into the hip-hop culture, starting as a dancer at the age of 8. Turning to the art of emceeing at the age of 12 under the influence of her older sister, she quickly learned the aspects of battling and free styling. Growing up as a chubby kid with glasses, quick wit and fast lyrics made her a force to be reckoned with in rhymes circles. " When you're a girl, you know to expect cats to say you ugly, you fat, or you a ho. I just made sure that what I said carried more weight than I did." Changing names several times before settling on Jimmi Pynk, she quickly gained respect of local emcees with her old school mentality about hip-hop, and her original style.
The name Jimmi Pynk came from an old customer service job where her government name Jameka was shortened to Jimmi by her co-workers. Already given nick names like Pinky, Pink Lady, and Miss Pink due to her affinity for the feminine hue, Supervisors began to combine the two together. Now, Jimmi Pynk is the premiere female emcee in Youngstown and is one of the top emcees out of the 330 area.†I'm looking to the future, hip-hop right now is in serious trouble, and with out acts like Common, Talib, Kanye, and such...It's gonna be all Snap music and crossover tracks. I'm trying to lean more towards the old school hip-hop, the $..!+ I listened to as a kid that blew my mind. I think it's time for lyricist to make a comeback, there is a market out there for it now". Jimmi has performed live several times over the course of her career including opening for such national recording artist as Remy Ma , State Property’s Oschino and Sparks, Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, Whodini and West Coast pioneer Spice 1. Her performances have created a fan base compiled of hard core hip-hop fans, and young women fascinated with fashion and glamour.
Easily recognizable by her unique voice, flow patterns, outrageous stage persona, and obvious color coordination with her moniker, Jimmi Pynk, often refered to as the Midwest Princess, has become a favorite on the Ohio Hip-Hop scene. She has received praise from artist and listeners from around the world, and even received accolades from critically acclaimed west coast artist Rass Kass stating that she is “def†and has “some hot shit†herself. Jimmi first solo album Stand Alone Complex earned her two 2007 Ohio Hip Hop Awards, and was selected to represent Youngstown at the ceremony. Her debut single “Don’t Stop†featuring Rawkus 50 Artist Aarophat , as well as her latest single, “Bringin’ Hell†are in rotation at Cleveland’s WENZ 107.9. She has been selected as a finalist for a national contest exclusively for Hot Topic, and was the only hip-hop act selected. Jimmi Pynk’s American Psycho is set for release September 11, 2008
