Time to play B-sides

About Me

Hey, it's me, Jody. I live in Northwest Arkansas and work in the TV business. My life is far from exciting, but I will bore you with the details anyway. I enjoy music quite a bit. I listen to, study, ruminate about and collect it. I am a musician and play drums in a band called the Ju Ju Kings. Check out our Myspace site, below in my "Friends" box. I can play guitar enough to irritate relatives, and I also sing in the Fort Smith Chorale, obviously in Ft. Smith, AR. I also am a magician, strangely enough. You can book me for your next family picnic, gathering or funeral. I enjoy warm baths and...er I mean...Anyway, those are a few of the strange things I'm into. I also am a bit of a nerd about movies, TV and popular culture of bygone eras. I usually let my geek flag fly, except around the ladies, of course. Oh, and I hate sports.

My Interests

movies, music, drumming, collecting, history, records, eating, sleeping, church involvement, documentaries, science fiction, old stuff, drawing, magic, shootin' guns, toys, hangin' out with friends, speaking in a British accent, wax museums, old theaters, dark rides, people watching, enjoying life with the lovely Ms. C

I'd like to meet:

Charley Weaver, Murry Wilson, Orion, Mr. Spock

Music:

I thought about making a list of the music I DO NOT like, but felt that might be a little negative, so here goes a sampling of the GENRES of music I dig. Of course, I enjoy most "rock" up until around 1984 when I feel the music died. So, let's say I like the "classic rock." I also dig extensively on rockabilly, roots music, blues (including pre-war country blues, folk and "old timey" music, post-war Chicago blues, and heck, just blues in general), jazz, Sixties Soul, funk, Psychedelic, British invasion, doo-wop, gospel, pre-80's country music and soundtracks. Sounds pretty pretentious, but I guess I'm just trying to be thorough. Maybe at some point I can make an artist list. Boy, that will be fun to do. *sigh* Oh, I also enjoy Halloween Sound Effects records sometimes when I'm in the mood.

Movies:

Science fiction, blacksploitation, Horror, Classic Universal Monsters, hicksploitation, documentaries, independent films, Romero Zombie flicks, Comedies, Z-grade forgotten weird movies, Stuff that makes you go "huh?"...If you can describe a movie as "cute," it's likely I will not enjoy seeing it.

Television:

Now that I think about it, I don't watch that many shows consistently these days. Ones that do come to mind are "Intervention" on A&E and "The Office" on NBC. I generally flip through the channels in a semi-hypnotic state until I see something. I will then just leave it on long enough for my brain to determine whether to "stay" or "pass." I then continue surfing. My TV basically looks like a strobe light.

Books:

I like coffee table books. You know, books with big pictures. I like non-fiction, history and biographies mostly. I also like "Spot Goes To The Farm" and "Runaway Bunny"...and Law Books.

Heroes:

Jesus Christ, people who serve in the military, people who sacrifice for others. Also astronauts.

My Blog

Maybe it IS a clown car...

Yep...the Duggars are expecting number 18.  Just think...if they all went to see a movie, it would cost around $160.  That's without popcorn.    http://www.breitbart.com/...

Too much noise, not enough music!

I don't usually just post links to other articles in here, but this is very interesting.  Seems I'm not crazy, and nowaday's music does, apparently, sound like garbage from a technical standpoint...

Library facts

Something I've noticed...a lot of people who use the computers at the public library suffer from noticeable B.O.  There's one guy I call Luigi who is ALWAYS sitting at the front "Quick Internet"...

A slice o' life narrative

The heavy aura of indifference hung like a fog over the rows and rows of records. The same records I'd seen every time I came in the shop.  The new arrivals were never stocked...they probably wen...

road HUMPS

Okay...why is every side street in this city having speed bumps built on them?  I know people speed through residential areas, but this is getting ridiculous.  First, it was Lafayette. ...
